Hey guys! I’ve had the laptop for a couple of days now and almost everything is fine with it expect of the creaking. When moving the lid there is a pretty annoying creaking noise coming from the lid close to the hinge area (especially when the lid is about 40 degrees closed). Just wanted an opinion from other owner if they have experienced anything similiar or if i should return it. I know this may sound as if im nitpicking but for the price (€1700) its pretty disappointing.

Where are you holding the lid when opening and closing it? Thinner laptop lids, no matter how strong the materials they are made of, are extremely sensitive to torsion, and lifting the lid by a corner may be enough to cause the hinge to make noise.

It doesnt really matter where i hold (i mostly hold it in the center) it and im pretty sure the creaking comes from the casing and not the hinge itself.

Is the hinge stiff? An overly tight hinge may create problems in the future (as with the Y50 years ago)

Not necessarily, i can operate it one handed with no problem. I can return it with no problem but its just a hassle since this is the best suited laptop for me right now and who know what problems i might face with the other unit.

It's your call. As a former Y50 owner, I am particularly afraid of poor hinges. They really mess up devices if you don't catch them in time.

I don't hear any creaking at all when I open or close my Aero14.

Hinge creaking is usually caused either by parts rubbing inside the hinge, or something loose. I don't think I've seen an Aero 14 or 15 hinge creak in person, though admittedly I've only had a couple of units of each in front of me.
