I recently acquired a Gigabyte Aero 14v7. The included Elan Touch-pad drivers from Xotic were crippled, dating back to 2015. There were only 2 options in each tab, and no ability to use 3 or 4 finger touch gestures. I pretty much depend on using the 3 finger swipe left/right to browse web, having that gesture mapped to Forward & Back functions.
So began the mission to fix it, at first I tried editing the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay , changing everything except the Win8 keys to have the DWORD Value of 1, most were set to 0. How ever, this didn't work, nothing changed in the Elan control panel.
If you are not comfortable with editing the registry, I recommend you don't do this.
What ended up working was updating the driver to the latest one from Gigabytes site.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can modify entries with Func & Enable in their name to directly edit them. A list of available functions can be found at this pastebin. http://pastebin.com/m51ekHCp
- Install that or the equivalent driver for your laptop, reboot.
- Open up Regedit
- Lets make a backup before anything gets edited, Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Elantech\ , right click the entry in the left window pane, choose Export. Give your backup file a name, like "Elan-Touchpad-backup-settings.reg", choose a location to save this file that's easily accessible, make a note of the location you are saving it in. Make sure the "Selected Branch" radio button is chosen, make sure that it says HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Elantech\ in the text field. Click Save. If you mess up, you can use this exported file to recover, just import it into the registry and it should undo any changes you made.
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay
- Observe all values with DWORD set to 0, change them to 1.
- Don't change entries with values that are not already set to 0 (mine has a few Win10 specific entries that are set to 255, not sure about these yet).
- In Regedit, move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Elantech\SmartPad, observe entries that end with "ShowItem", if their DWORD value is set to 0, change it to 1 to enable it.
- Close regedit.
- Open your Elan Touch-Pad settings via the tray icon or Mouse control panel, Elan tab, Options button.
- View all the new options you now have to play with.
Hope this helps someone.
