I have Aero 17 w/ 9750H and it makes all these odd squeaky noises -- kind of like a disk drive spinning sound. It happens particularly when plugged in, but sometimes when it is not.

I have seen reports of this from other Gigabytes. Has anyone found a solution?

    Thanks!

sometime it's due to fan start spinning.

I think it is the coil whine?

Mine is AERO 15 OLED and this is the noisiest laptop I that ever owned!! Coil whine from mobo + high pitched cooling fans. I just wondering if the engineers didn’t notice anything during the product development? Or maybe they just don’t care? Hmm..

I really hope Gigabyte will improve this “noise control” quality in their future laptops.

Mine is not fan noise. Fan is not running. It is a chirping sound which seems to only be heard when laptop is plugged in.Whether it is charged or not does not matter.

I have been in touch with Gigabyte support on this, and today they gave me instructions to RMA.

Don't expect the sound to go away. Of the 5 units I have worked with personally, every one of them has this coil whine.

Yeah, that's kind of what I expect. One of the keys is a little off too, so I am thinking maybe that will be fixed if I am lucky.

Given how much this has been discussed, I was surprised how easily he suggested RMA.

Has anyone ever tried a smaller charger to address this? Reason I think if it is that my Dell XPS 15 has a bigger battery, yet a charger half the size.

I wonder if slower charging might avoid triggering it.

I continue to have an ongoing conversation with Gigabyte support on this issue.

Coil whine or the fan is clicking at the bottom. I know there was another user here who had some clicking noise and it turned out to be the fan. Worth checking. The coil whine is annoying though

Mine is definitely CPU related. If I move the volume slider over toward high performance, it gets worse. Toward battery save, it gets better. Rarely will I hear it on battery. Most of the time when plugged in, regardless of charging state.

Only thing I have seen that makes it stop is turning the max utilization for CPU from 100% to 99%. This makes me think some of the C1E state theories might be correct.

It seems to have become a prevalent issue starting with six core 8750 last year, and on lots of brands.

I found something with potential to fix this: Using throttlestop to disable Turbo. Usually I have my laptop plugged in to charge while I am using desktop. Disabling turbo kills the annoying noise while laptop is charging and idling slowly. There is also a registry edit which will add this setting to power plans. I think this might be a better plan in the long run; have two plugged in power plans, one for high performance and one for idle/charging.

It's a shame to have to fuss with stuff like this.

Thanks a lot for this tip, I dropped the CPU maximum to 99% and this fixed it for me, no more faint reading/writing sounds like on a mechanical hard drive..

Be aware that this dramatically reduces CPU power. No turbo-boost, etc.

Another more efficient option is to get Throttle Stop and to turn it on when laptop is charging, etc. and you want it to be quiet. Click on the Disable Turbo button and the sound stops immediately. Then just close app when you are ready to rock.

Thanks for this. I used Throttle Stop to disable turbo and the sound stopped for me too. It has been driving me crazy.

On a side note, I have discovered that with turbo off, my fans don't turn on, even when running Prime95 (blend mode). This means that I will have a silent laptop when I want it and a noisy super fast laptop when I need it.

My one have the same sound.... for that Money a no Go. Its only when plugged in.
when i am moving in idle the mouse its getting much louder. Mouse is connected with USB.
I am sad. Mine is Aero 17 WA.

Does anyone solved the problem? with a new SSD or new AC-Adapter? Or RMA?

I dont want to disable the Turbo boost of the CPU everytime i am watching YouTube or Working with Office.

CocoLoco does your RMA worked for you?

I decided to punt. Life is too short.

After the tech support guy said every one in their office had it too, I never bothered with RMA.

Last week, I ordered a new XPS 15 w/9750H on sale and it is wonderful. No noise like Aero at all. Fan management software is about 1000x better than Aero for what I do. When you do hear fans, they are a whoosh, not a whine like Aero.

My Aero is going on Ebay next week.

Thanks for your fast reply and sorry for my Bad english...

ok nice to hear thinking also about a XPS or G7.

I bought the Aero for 2,5 Weeks and the Noise driving me Crazy.
in these 2,5 weeks i only used the notebook to solve this Problem. I did all workarounds / Tipps... but nothing worked for me. The only 3 Things what i can do is changing SSD and the AC Adapter or an RMA. Maybe then the Energy / Electric „Goes other ways in the Inside of the Aero“ (i saw a guy on YouTube with a razer stealth and he changed the ssd for eliminate coil whine).
RMA should be the last Option... i think it will change nothing.
My 6 years old Acer is still quiet and is for working much better.

Was pondering whether to buy the Aero 17 WA or HP Omen 17........then I read all these complaints about the coil whine.... I think I'll get the Omen. :)
