Hello I just bought the Aorus X7 DT V7 from gentechpc. Its being customized so it'll be here within a week.
My question is is the 230W adapter enough to power the machine when Overclocking?
I plan to Overclock the machine a little but was wondering does the 230W give it enough juice?
I was thinking of finding a different adapter, but since this is my First Aorus product, I don't really know what adapters are suitable for this device.
Any information if greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Unfortunately, no. And that's not a unique situation to your machine either, Aorus ships most, or possibly even all, of its units with PSUs which cannot supply as much juice as the machines are capable of drawing if you push your overclocks hard. Max load on an overclocked CPU and GPU will make the machine throttle. This has been found to be the case on various generations of the X3 and X5 models as well. I believe the power draw limit is written into the system, so buying a beefier PSU has not been found to help, if I recall correctly.

Ok thank you for that information!
That really helps I guess I'll just have to figure out a good balance when it comes to overclocking my x7Vistar Shook likes this. -
Ah thanks @krabman I just got my laptop today and saw that it is a 250W supply.
Just on the site that I got it from says 230W so I was a bit confused lol -
I noticed when I was comparing options that some sites didn't fully update the specs, one listed the DT V7 as having a 1070 for instance. Looks like on the high end you're going to end up with a push, you've got more juice but the 1080 uses more. On the other hand it does raise the ceiling a little so I guess it's a small victory.
I've bought in and mine is supposed to ship next week, if you're of a mind I'd be interested in hearing your initial impressions. -
@krabman
For my initial impressions it is a very nice built laptop~
I ran few benchmarks which I can post later since I'm updating my machine, Prime 95 at stock was max 82C with the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut.
I haven't done any GPU benchmarks yet which I will do later but few of the games I threw at it never got past 85C (Witcher 3, GTA V, AC:Origins)
The build quality for me is very nice, I read reviews on the screen flex, but mine barely has any.
Everything is running very well with x2 512GB SM961. Non raid cause i like the separation ssd.
It doesn't run loud for me when under load but I usual game with headphones.
The laptop is a beauty for me, i love the simplistic design with only the Aorus logo. The touchpad logo doesn't bother mean, but I actually like it cause it helps me notice where the touchpad is since the coloring of the touchpad is the same as the rest of the laptop inside.
Overall I am loving the laptop, no issues at the moment, of course i'll update as I go along. But for the initial impression this laptop is #1 for me since I travel a LOT. so Portability is key. -
Glad you like it! The power limits are a bummer, but I don't think they'll affect your overall impression of the machine unless you're a competitive overclocker or something.
-
I get it, I travel extensively. That's actually what brought me here, my Clevo has become problematic overseas. The laptop, power supply, power cord, and backpack are by themselves over weight for carry on with some of the stingier carriers. The smart people are claiming that 7 to 8 kilos is as low as they expect anyone to go since any lower would make a bag almost pointless when you consider the average carry on bag is 2 kilos by itself without putting a thing in it. I can just squeak that with this laptop and still have a 17" screen which is what put it at the top of my short list. I'm not worried about OCing it, the performance is good enough to play games native at high settings so I'll just be under-volting for thermals.
-
Yeah the portability is what drew me to this machine.
I will try OC to see how well it goes, but mostly like you I'll probably just be undervolting it to keep the temps down, but as far as I know with the thermal grizlly conductonaut the temps have yet to go past 85C on either CPU or GPU with heavy gaming for about 3-4 hours. So I'll have to try undervolting and OCing to see any major differences to temps and power consumption. -
I sprang for the griz and uprated pads on the shrapnel, seemed like a no brainer with this one. Mine is supposed to ship next Tuesday or Wednesday which means It'll be after the holiday weekend. On the plus side I wont have to worry about trying to sneak in the back room to fiddle with the new toy. lol
