Yesterday, I tried purchasing the Aorus X7 through Overclockers UK and the order didn't go through. So I sent them a message and this was the reply:
The billing and shipping addresses do need to be the same for first time orders. I would also recommend waiting a short while for the new version of this laptop which will be available for purchases in a month.
Can someone more knowledgeable please confirm?
Searching around I couldn't find anything

I'm sure there will be a Maxwell refresh sometime soon.

It is not Maxwell related.

Nope, sorry. I am not related to this

If they aren't being upgraded with 800m gpu's then what are they upgrading?
-

Interesting.
I would bet that the X8 will be showcased at Computex in a couple of weeks. I hope they do switch to Maxwell cards. Not just for performance but also for lowering the temp in their thin notebook -
It's not an X8, it's an X7. 7 for 17"... It's not like this is their 7th iteration.
It would be silly not to update to Maxwell. 860m SLI would be rockin some awesome FPS and be easier to cool. Or if 870m Maxwell replacement is lingering, then that would be spectacular.Prema, harmattan, jaug1337 and 1 other person like this. -
Maybe they are ready with a 18" and not a 17" refresh?
There could be some consequences from their small fanbase if they released a new 17" with better specs few months after the first machine came out. Maybe they decided to go for a 18" instead? -

Razer basically would lop $500 off the cost of the new system if you had bought the previous one. So many could sell the "old" one and make up most of the money they "lost" on the new one.
I am so intrigued by the Razer Blade 14 (2014) that I am so tempted to buy one, since nobody has written a decent review yet, and then turn around and sell it, should make up most of the original cost, although disassembling it would likely void the warranty and it wouldn't be a proper review without a full disassembly. -
Aorux X() with a dual Haswell 860m SLi would be awesome. Upgrade that screen to a higher res one, 17 inchers need some pixel love.
-
Meh, 1080p is fine. Actually 2560x1600 would be SUPERB! (16:10 FTW! )
I would much prefer a lower resolution for gaming than a higher one that the system will struggle performing with. Granted high enough resolution scaling in games shouldn't be much of an issue.Atreiya likes this. -

Well, it's been four years since I bought the Sager 8120 and the screen is white, cause of a short in the wiring (need to get that fixed...dunno where to start), so I'm in the market again for a laptop and I am definitely interested in this Aorus refresh.

Finally some new info about the refresh for the Aorus X7 is coming through.
Amazon UK put up a page with the new laptop a few days ago (since taken down):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-X7-V2-CF1-17-3-inch-Bluetooth/dp/B00K8QZGXC
BUT - there is another link from a Chinese site that was able to see it and write down some details:
аæAORUS X7µÄÏûϢй¶£¡£¡£¡_¼¼¼Î°É_°Ù¶ÈÌù°É
Google translate (and me
According to the disclosure:
Aorus X7 V2-CF1
GTX860M SLI 8G
4710HQ 2.5GHz
17-inch screen, 4K screen is not yet confirmed
UK release scheduled for June 16
The price of 1669 pounds is not officially confirmed yet, but the news should be true as it's from amazon uk.
Other big unknown is Maxwell vs. Kepler 860s.
Apparently, Aorus (Gigabyte) is officially announcing during Taiwan's big Computex trade show on June 3-4:

June 16th is around the corner!
I can't wait to hear more. -
I wouldn't be so sure it's Maxwell, those 3 chips are drop in replacements. It would be fantastic, but it doesn't make any monetary sense.
-
As happy as I would be if it were Maxwell... I assume SLI means MXM config in Aorus, and all 4GB SLI MXMs so far that I know are Kepler. Embedded 2GB non-SLI 860M = Maxwell. At some point this will change but when is the question.
-
I'm shocked the 765M's in the x7 are MXM. I figured they would be soldered onto the mainboard.
Edit: wait.. They are soldered. I don't think MXM vs soldered has anything to do with Kepler vs Maxwell. Both Kepler and Maxwell can be soldered and I would imagine an MXM board can also contain either one. The x7 is in fact soldered, but that doesn't have any bearing on whether it's Maxwell or Kepler.
I'm betting Kepler in the x7v2 since they wouldn't have to redesign the mainboard, but you never know. -
maxwell comes in 2 gb and 4 gb versions. in fact it has more 4 gb laptops with maxwell now like the p34g the y50 and the razer blade pro.
kepler version comes in mxm and soldered. like in the msi ghost gs60 and gs70. soldered 2 gb does not equal maxwell......
theres really only one thing thats right in what the previous poster said, that the maxwell gpu isnt in a mxm format yet. that is true.
the aorus x7 does not use mxm though its soldered cards.
im holding out for this one.
one last thing though does someone know what screen is used on the aorus x7? -
It's a TN panel. FullHD. Model: AUO B173HW02 V1.
"A look at the Panelook website indicates it is a 60Hz, 72% gamut, 6-bit screen with decent brightness (300 cd/m2) and contrast (400:1), along with a respectable 8ms response." from HTWingNut Review
I haven't had issues with it. Not as sharp as my G75VW 120Hz panel, but that's to be expected. I'm going to try to hit up Computex in Taipei next Saturday and see if I can get any more information about it. -
Nice! Didn't expect a GPU upgrade this quick, it would be awesome if it is Maxwell and really tempting.
Has SLI been upgraded, meaning fixed micro stuttering that used to happen with past laptops, I will admit I haven't really kept up with the SLI set ups. -
Meh, another TN screen. If the GPUs are Kepler too, then it really doesn't seem worth it

That's the V1 screen - I've heard they're trying for a 4k screen. I'm not sure IPS or TN. All the 3-4k screen lately have been glossy, though, in addition to the other scaling issues... Anyway, looks like they're trying, which is encouraging. Good to have another company pushing the specs.
-
well well well.........
Amazon made a whoopsy and took the page down but luckily there are ways once cached by google
Finally they have come to their senses. The notebook is called Aorus X7 V2 btw
-
Wow! Great catch! lol
It doesn't say anything about SLI though.
But it does say "8GB Graphics Card". Does this mean Kepler (4GB vRAM x 2)? -
-
-
Well I knew from the 8GB that it had to be SLI, but the reason it's probably the first nVidia SLI is because it's not MXM, which I believe for the time being nVidia said no Maxwell MXM cards. If its runs cooler overall and battery life is close to a "reasonable" 4 hours - as in web surfing, etc. It will be a for sure winner and I may even jump ship to this machine. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
-
I thought GM107 didn't support SLI..?
-
Man if they made a 15.6" version with Maxwell 860M SLI I would snap it up in a heartbeat. That would be the ideal rig for all my mobile needs and on-the-go gaming.
-
I dont know, we will see. -
Or just a guess? -
There are no 4K 17" panels..
-
-
Computex can't come soon enough!
I think this refresh is going to be my next laptop!

AORUS X7 Gaming Laptop Updated with Dual GeForce GTX 860M Graphics | techPowerUp
Still no mention if it's Kepler/Maxwell inside with those 860's. Starting at $2,300, still way out of my price range, but if money were no object that would be a pretty tempting machine. -
But bad news if you look in to the info:
Maxwell GTX 860M: P4900
Multiply them by 2 and only one of them cross P9000.....
Seriously, how is it even possible to screw that up Aorus? The heat from 765M wasn`t enough, you had to pick the weakest and hottest one of them?
Me is beginning to think Maxwell SLI maybe just isnt possible at this time for some stupid reason. If anyone could do it, it was Aorus since they are the only company that SLI soldered GPUs.
