So I bought an 8260 m.2, and an AC1900 router which is the most powreful asus router right now. I am going to check with newegg if I can return the laptop even after opening and trying the m.2.
I already checked with frys that I can return the router if it doesn't work. But I think to open the router is a waste of time, again, it only proves that under ideal conditions with a really good router this crappy wifi will work.
See these posts:
somebody already replace with 8265 and still same issue

Somebody here actually had intel wifi in aorus and that was bad too, so I think probably an aorus problem:

And here is exactly my experience. I am kicking myself I thought maybe these people were like, Aorus bashers or sometihng, now of course I know they are telling the truth.
PS: I have also had my keyboard suddenly die on my when pressing pagedown. A reboot fixed that, but it's not a good sign.

http://imgur.com/a/PsSgQ <-- this is pic of my aorus, the 8260 m.2 I bought, and the AC1900 Asus wifi router.
Update: hemscott I am also trying this: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-N150-Wireless-Adapter-TL-WN725N/dp/B008IFXQFU
I probably troubleshoot more on my day job that anyone on this forum, so I don't really need to troubleshoot my laptop, it should be reliable. But just to prove to you I'm not all talk, I bought both of these to try. see pic. The only worthwhile solution is the 8260 m.2 card, but I am waiting to hear form newegg if I can try that without voiding their 30 day return. The fancy Asus wifi router I can return to frys if it doesn't work, but to try to be clear, even if it does work, that only proves crappy wifi in this laptop can be solved by extremely powerful wifi access point/router. Which is not the point at all.
Now, the 8260 may not help at all see this post:
http://forum.aorus.com/forum/gaming-laptops/support/41692-network-adapter-x5-v6
and this post:
http://forum.aorus.com/forum/gaming-laptops/support/13756-truly-awful-wifi
and then see this post:
The "have you tried other wifi" comment from Aorus this is same thing Aorus USA phone support told me "go and try at starbuck" very annoying response http://forum.aorus.com/forum/gaming-laptops/support/39419-slow-and-laggy-wifi-with-x5-v6 but I don't have to worry about offending Aorus USA phone support on this forum because they never show iup on here ( strange! ).

BTW, you did get a really slow model of TPlink, it will connect at a maximum of:
- Connects laptops and PCs to Wireless N networks via USB, Speeds up to 150Mbps for lag-free video streaming and Internet calls, Miniature, plug-and-forget design
" Only good for short distance to router
By Peteron March 13, 2017
Size: N150 | Verified Purchase
TP-Link N150 works well as long as your router is no more than 10' away. I got about a 90% reduction in throughput for a router that was about 30' away. I think it may be more a matter of form factor than anything else. I get similar results from a different brand USB adapter with the same form factor. I am now using a Belkin stick USB adapter and it works fine at 30'."
They list another model the 450AC, which unsurprisingly connects using 802.11AC at:
- Blazing fast wireless data transmission rates of up to 433Mbps
- Utilizes 802.11ac standard and is backward compatible with 802.11a/n
And, for distance from AP/router, I try to get an external dongle with a more elaborate antenna - although not all work as good as they look, this one works well for mem, but you'll see reviews that had trouble with it - like any other wifi situation, one size does not fit all:
Asus (USB-AC56) Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter
https://www.amazon.com/Asus-USB-AC5...e=avp_only_reviews&sortBy=recent&pageNumber=1
But, I got that a while ago, by now you should be able to get a newer Asus unit, I'll check and update later.
Generally you want to get a matching maker/vendor version of the same protocol support (AC1900) in your USB dongle as the new router you purchase - it's harder these days as the routers are pushing the edge of technology in fast connections, and the dongles take a while to catch up.
And, Aorus was correct in asking you to check against other Wifi configurations, there are always other situations where your old reliable won't work against, that's why I carry other dongles, even very old ones for situations where I have to connect, but can't with new chipsets, they just aren't sharing the same detail with you as I am, because it's very time consuming and they can't possible afford to do that for every owner - you need to take on the responsibility to learn on your own, like you are now.
It's fun stuff, once you give in to the technical details, it's a fun challengeLast edited: Mar 13, 2017 -

For me I only leave the ipv4 & firewall features enabled, and uncheck or disable everything else - all the QOS, ipv6, MS crap, etc - and that is one of the steps along the way we would have gotten to, but I'm glad you found it on your own -
Thank you, but per my OP that didn't make a difference either way for me. I can tell you don't own this laptop I also can tell you don't own a 1535 card in any of your laptops.
Anyway, the rest of the laptop is so awesome ( mysterious keyboard turning off and battery bumping around on every trackpad click aside and I found a tiny 1mm ball of prestic under the N key fixed it) I may have to eat my words and do what you said a few posts ago and see if the little wifi microdongle that should arrive tomorrow will work fine ( which I have no doubt it will, and I find it amusing how a tiny 5mm by 3mm rectangle can have a better antenna (attenae? plural?) than all the real estate they have to properly run attenae wires in an entire laptop ... but hey what do I know! thumbs up.

It's important to note that problem was also fixed a number of times and re-broken by MS updates. That's why for Windows 10 users, for now, it's best to leave updates off once you've found a Windows 10 version / Killer driver version that work well together.
That 150N dongle was the poorest choice you could have made when buying a dongle; you didn't even try to get one with a better antenna... why? Were you hoping a many step down in protocol coverage had a better chance at being more compatible with your old router/AP?
Try to find a newer release USB Wifi dongle, one that will take advantage of the new protocols in your new router, and get one with an extension USB cable so you can place the dongle in a good unobstructed spot.
The new router should help, be sure and update the firmware to the latest on their site, don't rely on the auto-update, they don't always work well. Out of the box routers most always have buggy firmware, so do the update.Last edited: Mar 13, 2017 -
The results of my testing with little USB dongles are the edimax ac1200 ( $19.95 at Frys gives me about 75% the performance of every other laptop in my house 2.4G and it's really small, something I can leave plugged in all the time, so that's what I am going to go with. ) I also will be keeping the x5 v6, thankfully, as the keyboard hasn't had any more issues and overall it's awesome.
For the record I also tested the TP-Link TL-WN725N it is nice and small with a cool green flashing light and although it was ten times as fast as the killer wifi, it was still too slow. note: also speeded up if go right up to router close.
I then tested Maliya 11a dual band ( it has no other official model number ) and it was much better than tp-link, but sticks out too much.
Again for those who don't wnat to wade through this whole thread, Using the killer wifi on 2.4G was totally unusable, like a joke. Unless within 3 meters of the router. My home router does not do 5G. So the other "solution" was I also bougth a high end asus wifi router and on 5G ONLY (not 2.4G) the killer wifi worked great, blazing fast. I don't consider that a valid solution though because not everywhere I go will have a nice router like that. So I am returning that one and the other two usb dongles, and keeping the edimax, it works acceptably well, although I still consider it a joke that I had to go through this to get usable wifi speeds.
So this is my last post in this thread and I sincerely hope it helps somebody and I will also be cross referecing this post in the actual aorus forums on aorus site.hmscott likes this. -
Well it looks like i'm going to be the latest one on this thread with wifi problems. So my X7v6 w/AC1535 has been giving me flaky behavior on my home network. The router is an Asus RT56 N-300 (if i remember correctly) and network speeds should be 50mbps down and 20mbps up. Killer drivers and suite from 12/2/2017 were installed which are the latest of the webpage (for both the suite and drivers)
On the 5G band, it would show me 50 down and 20 up on my ISP's speedtest which is fine and all. But when i put a load on it eg a Steam download or downloading Overwatch, it gave me a solid 5.5mbps and above for about 10 mins and then it started to drop and eventually the laptop would tell me that it is connected to the network but has no internet access.
Switching to the 2.4Ghz band, it gave me worse values on the speedtest and most sites loaded up noticeably slower. Trying to watch a 1080p60 vid on youtube would result in long buffering sessions and the eventual switch to 480p. However, it did not drop at all. Slower speeds yes, but no drops. This is what i find surprising. Took me quite a while to connect to BO3 and Overwatch matches but no drops. Pings were quite high for Overwatch at around 150 plus to the low 200s connecting to America as i'm in Asia.
Turning off Advance Stream detect in the suite made the issue a tad bit worse with speeds not going above 20mbps down. Turning it back on and using the priority settings that put my games and browser at 1 (highest priority) didnt really solve any issues
My old AC7260 card had none of these issues save for insane ping spikes in BO3 which were solved by using WLAN Optimizer surprisingly.
I am planning to use WLAN optimizer with the current driver and software suite to see if any of these issues pop up. If it still does, then a full removal of drivers and suite will follow later tonight.
I'll keep you all postedbwolmarans likes this.
