I just received mine today. Going to run benchmarks, test battery life in different scenarios, etc., and I'll post here once I have some results. In the meantime, you can check out this thread which has a couple of reviews already.

I just received my x5 yesterday and so far it is blazing fast. With the dual 256GB SSDs in RAID configuration, applications load almost instantly and the computer boots very fast as well. I only played one game, Bioshock 1, and it performed great on 2880x1620 with everything maxed out. As I expected, the laptop got very hot while under full load and battery life will fly by if the laptop is not connected to AC power. I am still downloading my games from Steam and I look forward to playing some more graphics intensive games to break in the laptop.

This is very weird. A month later none of the owners have shared a 3dmark score
Are all the owners having some sort of technical difficulties?

Does anyone have the default X5 wallpaper they can post here? When I did the upgrade to Windows 10, the Windows default wallpaper overrode the X5 one, and I can't seem to find it on machine anywhere.

    Im already thinking upgrades.
But i personally dont care about the video capture....
But im not sure what happens if you twke it out and put in another ssd if its set to raid
Does the 3rdd ssd need to be a lite on like the other 2? Or can they stay raid but the third be seperate and larger.
And if you do want it to be raid do you need to reinstall?

So im not sure if ibwant anouther 250 lite on or a 500 gb something else?

What are all the important nerd factors? And is a video capture card woth something. Is it just an m2 ssd anyway?

I am seriously thinking of buying a sata 3 ssd before the machine even arrives or instead writing a hardwarw profile button thst just shuts off the hdd and turns it on when i need it.

I noticed that as well. Go to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\AORUS and it should be there.

If you replace the AverMedia card with another SSD, it will simply recognize it as an additional drive. If you want to increase the size of the RAID, you will have to delete the volume in the BIOS and create a new RAID volume. When you delete the volume, you won't be able to access the OS, so you'll have to perform a new installation with the AORUS System Backup tool or a clean Windows installation.

The capture card is good for live streaming, because it will take some load off the CPU. If you're not going to be live streaming, then it's really not necessary. In my X5, I kept the AverMedia card, upgraded the other two M.2 SSDs to 512GB each, for 1TB RAID 0, and upgraded the HDD to a 1TB 2.5" SSD.

Ok new issue. I posted this on the Aorus forums too, but has anyone noticed that their webcam is not available after the Windows 10 update? I can't find it in device manager at all, there are no drivers posted to the Aorus website and none of the comms apps (i.e. Skype) sees that there is a webcam installed. It's odd since that type of device is usually just plug-n-play, since way back.

Also, has anyone been able to get the AverMedia encoder to be recognized by any streaming apps (i.e. OBS, Xsplit, etc)?

So you have at least one 256 mb ssd spare somewhere?

I think i want it more like this
3 256k mb m2 ssd in raid 0. but a 2 tb hdd as storage. Only shut it off until its plugged in a battery profile.

At the aorus forum many new owners are reporting thst win 10 with the new drivers soft bricked their machine.
I would and will be delaying the win 10 upgrade
The drivers that brick windows 10 are nvidia and sound so you cant game or listen.
At least temporarily im sure they will fix it.

    Ask and ye shall receive.

These are with unstable drivers. The stable drivers, while newer, have a 1-3 FPS difference and get a score of about 7990.

    And some SSD benchmarks:

just opened it up, doing all updates and win10 now.

I put on the protector for the trackpad, and honestly trackpad seems not so great. Might be the protector. I guess ill try without it.

Not a huge issue since I use my mouse most of the time, but I can see this being bad for pure trackpad users.

    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/FCCT960M500SSD1

Tip for you aorus x5 owners.

Just to me the hdd seems like a wart on my beautiful laptops butt.

I was actually shopping for thr 256 gb m.2 ssd and i had a question maybe for gentech but does itnhave to be exactly the same lite on 256 gb?
Or could it be larger diff brand etc

If it has to be that one whats the cheapest source we can find for it?
Also who all upgraded ram? Im thinking 24 gbbalready

I was actually pleasantly surprised by both the touchpad and the hinge mechanism. Back in the day when laptop lids would flex more easily, I always opened them by applying force to only the middle, and I still do, out of habbit. As for the touchpad, I think my fingertips are drier than average. I get good glide even if the surface hasn't been greased up, but when I tried to moisten my fingertips with a bit of water, I exhibited similar glide characteristics to what others have noted.
How much did you pay for it? I'll admit that it would be nice for the system to be silent when otherwise idle, but at least the chassis' rigidity takes care of HDD vibrations. I already have a 2TB HDD at hand, so I'll keep that for the foreseeable future, add another m.2 SSD down the road if needed, and perhaps swap out the 2TB HDD with a 3D NAND SSD at some point. If I can get a 1.5TB+ SSD that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'll be interested. I haven't purchased more RAM yet, but I can confirm that mine shipped with Crucial memory, not the G.Skill modules that Notebookcheck got in their test machine.
Loudness is expected with a slim gaming notebook, but I find the fan pitch to not be overly intrusive when using headphones, even if they are open. IEMs keep out the noise better. I performed a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro and bluetooth appears to be working fine. I have, however, noticed the speakers being a bit glitchy. They can go mute from idling, without appearing muted under Windows. Changing the volume using the function keys during audio playback is my hotfix.

I paid 180 dollars for 960 gb ssd. It is admittedly last gen. Id jump on it experience tells me it will last a few days. The 480 gb for 99 is good too.
I dont even have my laptop yet lol im going crazy i have to stop buying stuff. Thursday is the day
Now i also have the stock 1 tb hdd to get an enclosure for.

Sobi already have 2.5 tb storage for a laptop with nothing on it lol. And im about to add 256 gb more. Just to load that nothing faster lol

I do sort of wish i had thr 2 2.5 bays in the sager 8652 now. But then actually ibwould have bought two of those 960 gb ssds.
I should have bought all of them. id be retired.

Derp, I completely missed the price tag last time around and thought you'd buy it elsewhere than Crucial's own page. :vbtongue: $180 is a real steal, even if it is factory, though I doubt they offer international shipping. Either way, I tend to fill up storage quickly, so I'll stick with my 2TB M9T HDD for now.

Aorus gave me and several other regular posters a free t shirt or hoodie on the aorus forum.

    Makes me feel good.

Crucial cancelled my 960 gb ssd.
Thats all good ill save up for a samsun 850 2tb ssd
In the meantime i guess ita back to the lite on 256 gb m2 ssd
Has anyone used the avermedia card?
    What is its capacity?
Avermedia doesnt even sell one like this. They sell usb 3.0 boxes. Why not put this thing in an m.2 usb 3.0 enclosure in case i ever need it?
And furthermore if it is an ssd can i just reformat it? What is its capacity?

Glad to hear the computer has gotten to you safely, thank you for all your patience to get it.

If your order did have an upgraded thermal compound selected it definitely should have been applied. Would you please PM me your order number so I can take a look into this. If that is something you paid for and we can tell it wasn't done we'll happily refund you for it.

If you could provide me with a link to your unboxing video as well, I would like to go over it with our management team. I would also like to take a look into why it took two weeks if there were no upgrades done to it.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the follow up. The wait may have been just for stock to arrive. Typically when that is the case we do send you updates to let you know. Was that the case here? I will also look into refunding the shipping costs, please do send me your order number when you can.

i will send you a 2nd email with the updates i received during the order. In short i sent the person who sent me an email to send her questions a question about what was going on.
then she said send an email to someone else. So I did and 2 days later he said well allot parts on monday.
So I was pretty impatient at that point. I live about 15 miles from excalliber pc and they had 20 in stock the whole time. But whatever he was correct also they assigned parts and shipped it air freight on monday and it got here thursday.
