Defo nicer and it should be quieter too. Then done a good job co trolling the fans. It’s not just a case of fans adequate for cooling. They set up in bios(that you can’t edit) how the cpu is used on it’s own and with gpu to prevent throttling and overheating. They did a clever job with it.
Plus their rbg keyboard by Corsair is mint. I also heard they was around the cheaper side (which I agree).
I know this is an gigabyte thread promoting lenovo. But I do buy gigabyte/aorus laptops.
But seeing as you not that happy with your unit I’m just throwing it out there.

Here are my overall thoughts so far:
CPU Power: Not great for the 8750H - I'm getting a Cinebench R15 score of 1,000 without undervolting, and 1,100 with undervolting. This is lower than my Legion Y7000 which got 1,250
GPU Power: Amazing. Firestrike score of ~16,000. I was able to play Battlefield 1 at 4k solid 60fps with Ultra settings but anti aliasing off
Display: OK. Brightness is good but colors are way off
Temperature: Very good. Not hot at all on the WSAD area, or left palm rest
Noise: Awful, the fan will not shut off, even when doing nothing, and it has a high pitched wine to it. <-- This will be the reason I return it if i do
Build: Excellent quality. Solid and lightweight
Webcam: Low quality
Trackpad: Surprisingly decent
Keyboard: Ok, Lenovo Y7000, Surface Book 2 etc. all better
Price: Too expensive. Yes the build and graphics are much better than my Lenovo Y7000 but the fan is attrocious, and the CPU is less powerful.Last edited: Mar 12, 2019 -
The more I look into it the more I’m convinced Gsync for me is a option that I need.
Not sure why more laptop makers aren’t implementing Gsync for gaming laptops besides adding a bit to the cost but I also get why some people need more battery life for other needs but c’mon most people buy gaming laptops for just that gaming.

The really weird thing about this laptop is that it doesn't have G-Sync or Optimus
-
I know its nuts! Its the worst of both worlds:
1) Bad Battery Life
2) Loud Fans
3) Tearing
wtf!
Its frustrating because other than that.... its a sexy laptop! Everything else is pretty good to great!Last edited: Mar 12, 2019 -
Hello mate, can you tell me what software do you use for see fps, temperature, memory used … in game please ?
thanks -
* Temperatures Intel Extreme Tunining Utility to watch temperatures live or HWInfo and then the "Sensors" area within that. It will show max temperature of each CPU core
* CPU Test Cinebench R15 or Geekbench 4
* GPU Test 3D Mark's Firestrike or Timespy <-- You need to purchase these they aren't free
* FPS monitoring you can use MSI Afterburner. The software is a little clunky to setup FPS monitoring but it works well once you have. It also does temperature monitoring -
Does anyone else have a high pitched fan noise or is it just me? I don't know whether to swap it for another unit or just get a different machine

I was considering the Aorus 15 2070. Aorus makes awesome laptops but unfortunately this isn't one of them.
It's not even a real Aorus and it's no surprise they only released one RTX laptop and the rest of the fleet comes but in May.
The Aorus 15 is a Clevo type chasis. May not be Clevo exactly but another generic frame.
The Thunderobot 911 pro is the exact same machine but with different light strips.
It was actually on display at CES but nobody talked about it. Crappy Chinese reseller.
Funny thing is the Thunderobot manages to put the option for the 2080 max-q which Aorus does not.
My take is that Aorus wanted to release something ahead of the big 9th gen May release for their regular lineup. They grabbed this chasis. ( or made it themselves with the intent to sell to resellers..MSI did this with the MSI 16L13) to stay in the game. I fully expect a major quality Aorus 15 line to be release in May with full aluminum bodies and 2080 GPU's.
I saw the thunderobot 911 pro in a CES video. It wasn't the star of the show but the camera slowly panned a whole row of laptops and it was on camera for a few seconds. Then I googled and found many chiinese results and also this.

They add the light strip across the rear fans similar to what Aorus did with the X9 series. No doubt it's Aorus design because they are the only laptops I have seen with that light strip done that way. It seems they wanted their own Aorus version to be "professional" as well and they didn't include them.Last edited: Mar 16, 2019 -

Here's pics from every angle. I don't blame you for doubting..

To be clear. Im not trying to trash the laptop. I love Aorus and had the X5 and X9 DT.
Im was just very disappointed in this machine . That it didnt have a large battery like the X5 always does. That the keyboard looked abit crappy. That the design looked abit off. Not a natural progression of the X5 line.
That it wasnt solid aluminum and the bottom was like an MSI type laptop.
That it is thicker than the previous versions. That it didnt have a 2080 or max-q option.
When i found out it probably was just a filler tide them over laptop until May releases...it was relieving. This likely isnt the end all of the Aorus X5. Something better is coming and i look forward to it.
However this Aorus 15 is at a truly excellent price with a nice trackpad and maybe the best budget value machine there is with a true 2070 and if i were on a budget it may still have been the one i bought. Sorry to sound too critical of it. -
After all the reviews were published I decided to hold off and wait for Computex to see what is released mid year.
My hope is we have better screens by then. My dream is to have a 120hz 1440p 5ms 400+nit screen. Alternatively, though only 60hz refresh rate I'm interested in the 15" OLED screens that Samsung will be releasing shortly. They have quick response times and high brightness but the downside is the low refresh rate and battery drain when not gaming.
Pairing a sweet screen, a 9th gen CPU, a 90wh battery and a 2080 with a chassis that can handle the thermals later this year is what I'm hoping for now.Flying Endeavor and knibbler like this. -
Honestly I blame Intel for the rubbish state of gaming laptops right now. The CPUs just can't be cooled in these laptop bodys. -
Btw more issues with the Aorus 15 v 9. I cannot get any CPU cores to go above 800mhz. Seriously
I have tried restarting the computer several times. I've tried turning up the fans to max in the Control Center. I've tried setting the CPU at max in the control center. I've tried changing the power profiles in Windows power settings. I've tried undervolting. I've double checked that the power is on.
Does anyone else have this issue? -

If you scroll down to where it says stress test you can see the results, funny thing the cooling system is pretty basic when just looking at it
Lenovo Y740 15”
Not trying to derail the thread just making a point.
Just wish the Aorus had a GSync screen because overall it looks great and is relatively affordable.
@knibbler
Makes a great point about future releases of more Aorus laptops because traditionally they have GSync screens like the X5 and X9DT.
I’m hoping the those next gen replacement models for the X5 and X9 have GSync screens.Last edited: Mar 18, 2019AlexusR likes this. -
Its a good point, and yes I agree with you. My Lenovo Y7000 had very good cooling. Its a pretty it kept loosing the graphics card (seriously would constantly state no graphics card in the middle of games), and blue screened frequently

Silly question - does re-pasting void warranty? I can't recall the forum I read this on but in order to get to the innards you'd have to break the sticker/seal. This probably also has been answered before... forgive my laziness on a Thursday morning...
