So just saw this video from the Aorus youtube channel:
Firestrike score is at 3:01.
What do you guys think?
-
That seems a bit high when comparing with the results from Notebookcheck where the Schenker XMG 15 Ultra with a 2070 and 9700K is getting 19353.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Nvidi...-Laptop-GPUs-Performance-Review.401266.0.html -
Actually, both those seem off as it looks like the Alienware A51m with the same specs as the Schenker is getting 17,518.
I'm confused. The spread is too high as idI think they'd all be in the same ballpark.

I'm considering the new Aorus 15 but to me its fugly and prefer the v7 / v8 design.

Has anyone purchased this laptop? Curious to know about the thermals and performance.
-
Hopefully the thermals isn't like the Aorus X5 series, as I had the v7 and it ran hot even with LM. -
Does this laptop use a desktop grade 2070 or is it the max-q variant?
-
2070 and if it was MQ, it would've had MQ after the 2070.

I'm also curious about aorus too, specially for version with rtx 2060.
-
Has anyone bought this model yet?
-
Normaly it's seems that it's release but no one speak about it ...

@Donald@HIDevolution Do you know if this laptop has been released in the US yet? My local retailer says it will be in stock on 27th Feb, but I live in New Zealand and everything is released later here.
-
I contacted HIDevolution about this laptop and it turns out it doesn't have optimus, which is a weird choice because it doesn't seem to have g-sync either. I was told that the expected battery life for "mixed use" will be around 2-3 hours. Which really sucks because I was planning to buy one for uni .

I'd love to see more reviews and tests to validate how accurate these results are. -
This video just popped up on my YouTube feed. Watching it now.

pretty disappointed with the temperature, with that many intake/exhaust vents I thought temperatures would be much better
EDIT: I just read a review of the RTX 2060 version and they said that after 1hour of aida64 stress test, CPU never went above 64 degrees. https://translate.google.com/transl...2/09/gigabyte-aorus-15-w9-review/&prev=search
Does aida64 push the CPU very hard?Last edited: Feb 24, 2019 -
Hi guys.
Long time member, first time posting.
I've just purchased an Aorus 15 X9 (RTX2070). This thing is impressive and more specifically the thermals.
I could not get the temperatures of the CPU or GPU go over 70 degrees C (fans at full speed). I did an undervolt but no repaste, cooling is 100% stock.
My best Fire Strike- Graphics Score so far is 21197 - here
My best Fire Strike overall is 17991 - here
My Cinebench R15 CPU is 1240cb back2back
I so want to break in the 18000+ Fire Strike -
-
-
After some more playing around with ThrotthleStop and Afterburner...
Woohoo 18154 in Fire Strike - here
Graphics Score - 21452!!! Actually higher than the 21340 Aorus are officially stating.
Cinebench R15 1261cb
Max CPU temperature during tests - 67 degrees C at the 2 hottest cores and 65 on the other 4. No throttling.
Max GPU temperature during tests - 57 degrees C. No thermal throttling but it hits power limit.
I wonder how to raise the GPU power limit? Any ideas?
Update!

There's an option for it in XTU, not sure about TS.

Is it true the screen does not have Gsync? Would suck if not. Some people have mentioned that you really don’t need Gsync with such a high refresh rate but the only people that say that are people that don’t have a Gsync screen. It’s a deciding factor to me.
ThanksLast edited: Mar 3, 2019 -
Maximum GPU temperature - 77C, Average 62C, NO Thermal throttling, but it hits power limit. Max GPU power is 117.690W but I've seen it as high as 120W. And this thing is tiny! Slim and light too. So it is in fact possible to design a powerful laptop with good cooling solution cough alienware cough dell
And yes you are correct, NO G-Sync. I honestly don't think it's such a big deal, considering the price of the laptop and the performance you get I'm quite pleased. I currently have an Acer Predator laptop with G-Sync and comparing it to the Aorus, I don't think there is any difference. I just wish there was an option to use the Intel GPU (for longer battery life), but it looks like it has been disabled because I can't see it in Device Manager.
I was looking at the Alienware Area51m but I just can't justify the cost. Here in New Zealand a configuration similar to the Aorus (i7-8700 & RTX2070) costs $5300NZD ~ $3610USD and the 9900k & RTX2080 combo "starts" from $8800NZD ~ $6000USD!!! To me that's insanity.IKAS V likes this. -

Awesome now I'm even more excited. Can't wait till it arrives. I've been using the Alienware 13r3 as my main rig 7700hq and 1060. I do alot of heacy coding and play battlefield 1. I am hoping for a massive improvement
-
If they sold one with a 1070 max q. I’d of kept it and skipped the 2000 gen, the aw13 was that good. but I’m assuming your getting the 2060. It’ll run exactly like a 1070.
I also currently own the aw15 r4 with 1070 and it’s a massive step up in performance.
Need something similar in size to the aw13 so I’m upgrading/side grading to a smaller laptop with 2070 max q. I just wish it was as impressive as this guys benchmarks results.

I'm not sure about the exact dimensions of the Alienware, but the Internet says it's 13 x 10.6 x 0.87 inches (33 x 27 x 2.2cm; W x D x H) and weighs 5.8 pounds (2.6kg). My Aorus 15 X9 is 14.17 x 9.64 x 1.18 inches (36 x 24.5 x 3cm; W x D x H) and weighs 4.87 pounds (2.21kg). Just a word about the height. It's 3cm at the back and 2.5cm at the front of the laptop and that's including the rubber feet (so basically from the surface that it was sitting on, to the top of it)Last edited: Mar 11, 2019 -
I'm a massive Alienware fan btw. I've had an M15x that I upgraded to GTX 970m and 920xm with a 330w brick and a modded power plug (no center pin) that thing was a BEAST, best BIOS in a laptop. Then I had an m17x r2, m17x r3, m17x r4, a couple of m18x r2s ... I actually still have my m17x r2 with the gorgeous RGB LED screen They don't make them like that anymore! I miss the old days.Last edited: Mar 11, 2019 -
Even though it doesn’t have GSync is screen tearing noticeable with the 144hz screen?
I’m really hesitant to buy a new laptop without GSync otherwise this laptop would be pretty high on my list of laptops to buy.
I hear people say you really don’t need GSync when you have this high a refresh rate but those are only the people that don’t have a GSync screen!
I’m really a big fan of GSync and think it’s one of the best things to happen to screens in a long time. I’m trying to convince myself I doesn’t matter.piteris2 likes this. -
I ordered the legion y740 15 at the same size pretty much. Mainly for the dedicated mouse click buttons and no number pad (clearly trying to recreate the feel plus its design resembles it).

Yeah I love the AW13R3 so much, i'm not going to sell it. I'm just going to keep it around for eye candy
Re the Aorus, how is fan noise for light tasks? mine arrives tomorrow btw -
Mine arrived today.
The is not great. It is not bright and the color reproduction is not great.
The model is the LGD05E8 (LP156WFG-SPB2), which is a medium range panel. Normally used in budget laptops. It is not as good as the Razer 15
Here is a review of it: https://www.ultrabookreview.com/21758-asus-tuf-fx505-review/
Panel HardwareID: LG Philips LGD05E8 (LP156WFG-SPB2);
Coverage: 98% sRGB, 69% NTSC, 74% AdobeRGB;
Measured gamma: 1.9;
Max brightness in the middle of the screen: 260 cd/m2 on power;
Contrast at max brightness: 640:1
White point: 7600 K;
Black on max brightness: 0.41 cd/m2.
Also the fan never turns off. Its really annoying. Even when it is doing nothing. More info to come as I keep reviewingLast edited: Mar 12, 2019 -
so most people couldn’t care less about the colour reproduction and the like.
About the fans; since the iGPU has been switched off and the dGPU is always running, it’s kinda obvious that the fans will be constantly running even on idle. -
-
Looking at pictures here I can see it’s not an “amazing” thing to look at. It look alright. But that would go hand in hand with the screen quality.
Try the y740 with a 2070 mq (surely that’s enough power still from I assume the 1060) if you return it.
People are hyping it up and I bought one because it looks like they was influenced by that Alienware generation but did a slightly nicer job with it and it’s a bit close to the size of the r3 with 144hz gysnc.

Interesting. If i'm reading you right, you feel the Lenovo is nicer. The thing that is killing me is how loud the fans are on this. I checked in the bios if i can re enable the igpu but i can't find a way. Do you know if there is a way to do it? -

I think the tearing is pretty bad tbh. I just played an hour of Battlefield 1. It was smoother on my external display at 60fps 4k than on the internal display 100hz.
