    The alienware actually also has ~19k graphics score, you were looking at the total score. When I first saw the video I was also sceptical of the rtx 2070 score, but their rtx 2060 score seems to be pretty close to what others have reported.

    I emailed gentechpc and asked them to do a review of the Aorus 15 X9 2070, hopefully they will.

    Hopefully the thermals isn't like the Aorus X5 series, as I had the v7 and it ran hot even with LM.

    Does this laptop use a desktop grade 2070 or is it the max-q variant?

    2070 and if it was MQ, it would've had MQ after the 2070.

    @Donald@HIDevolution Do you know if this laptop has been released in the US yet? My local retailer says it will be in stock on 27th Feb, but I live in New Zealand and everything is released later here.

    Looks like a Chinese reseller has a rebranded version. Is it just me or is this one 1000x nicer than the Gigabyte version? Anybody know who actually makes this chassis?

    I contacted HIDevolution about this laptop and it turns out it doesn't have optimus, which is a weird choice because it doesn't seem to have g-sync either. I was told that the expected battery life for "mixed use" will be around 2-3 hours. Which really sucks because I was planning to buy one for uni :(.

    Hi guys.
    Long time member, first time posting.
    I've just purchased an Aorus 15 X9 (RTX2070). This thing is impressive and more specifically the thermals.
    I could not get the temperatures of the CPU or GPU go over 70 degrees C (fans at full speed). I did an undervolt but no repaste, cooling is 100% stock.
    My best Fire Strike- Graphics Score so far is 21197 - here
    My best Fire Strike overall is 17991 - here
    My Cinebench R15 CPU is 1240cb back2back

    I so want to break in the 18000+ Fire Strike :D

    How is the performance and temps with just a undervolt and stock fans?

    After some more playing around with ThrotthleStop and Afterburner...
    Woohoo 18154 in Fire Strike - here :D
    Graphics Score - 21452!!! Actually higher than the 21340 Aorus are officially stating.
    Cinebench R15 1261cb
    Max CPU temperature during tests - 67 degrees C at the 2 hottest cores and 65 on the other 4. No throttling.
    Max GPU temperature during tests - 57 degrees C. No thermal throttling but it hits power limit.
    I wonder how to raise the GPU power limit? Any ideas?

    Update!
    Fire Strike score 18390 - here
    Graphics Score - 21817
    Fire Strike Extreme 9644 - here
    Time Spy 7909 - here

    Update 2!!!
    Fire Strike score 18592 - here
    Graphics Score - 22116

    Very impressed by the performance, are the fans fairly quiet on the Auto fan profile when gaming and how high are COU temps when gaming on auto fan?
    Is it true the screen does not have Gsync? Would suck if not. Some people have mentioned that you really don’t need Gsync with such a high refresh rate but the only people that say that are people that don’t have a Gsync screen. It’s a deciding factor to me.
    Thanks

    On Auto fan, the laptop is very quiet. HWiNFO reported maximum CPU 85C, Average 70C NO Thermal or Power throttling!
    Maximum GPU temperature - 77C, Average 62C, NO Thermal throttling, but it hits power limit. Max GPU power is 117.690W but I've seen it as high as 120W. And this thing is tiny! Slim and light too. So it is in fact possible to design a powerful laptop with good cooling solution cough alienware cough dell

    And yes you are correct, NO G-Sync. I honestly don't think it's such a big deal, considering the price of the laptop and the performance you get I'm quite pleased. I currently have an Acer Predator laptop with G-Sync and comparing it to the Aorus, I don't think there is any difference. I just wish there was an option to use the Intel GPU (for longer battery life), but it looks like it has been disabled because I can't see it in Device Manager.

    I was looking at the Alienware Area51m but I just can't justify the cost. Here in New Zealand a configuration similar to the Aorus (i7-8700 & RTX2070) costs $5300NZD ~ $3610USD and the 9900k & RTX2080 combo "starts" from $8800NZD ~ $6000USD!!! To me that's insanity.

    Yes PB Tech, they are the official distributor for Gigabyte. And no, no units on display, but if you ask them, they'll probably open a boxed unit for you. They won't let you install any software on it though (I tried :D )
    Cheers

    I find the screen to be very bright and visible in direct sunlight (thanks to the matte finish). I don't have any color calibrating equipment to measure the color reproduction, but I'm finding the colors very pleasant with nice deep blacks. I hope this helps, I know it's not very scientific...

    Btw does the 2070 model come with a 230watt power brick? I heard the 2060 only comes with a 180 and it throttles

    Yes, it comes with a 230w power brick. And the brick itself is very compact compared to other power supplies I've seen.

    You’ll love it. I had the aw13 r3. Best overall laptop I’ve ever owned with form factor and performance and build quality.
    If they sold one with a 1070 max q. I’d of kept it and skipped the 2000 gen, the aw13 was that good. but I’m assuming your getting the 2060. It’ll run exactly like a 1070.
    I also currently own the aw15 r4 with 1070 and it’s a massive step up in performance.
    Need something similar in size to the aw13 so I’m upgrading/side grading to a smaller laptop with 2070 max q. I just wish it was as impressive as this guys benchmarks results.

    So in comparison to the 13 r3, the Aorus is quite similar in size, despite being 15.6".
    I'm not sure about the exact dimensions of the Alienware, but the Internet says it's 13 x 10.6 x 0.87 inches (33 x 27 x 2.2cm; W x D x H) and weighs 5.8 pounds (2.6kg). My Aorus 15 X9 is 14.17 x 9.64 x 1.18 inches (36 x 24.5 x 3cm; W x D x H) and weighs 4.87 pounds (2.21kg). Just a word about the height. It's 3cm at the back and 2.5cm at the front of the laptop and that's including the rubber feet (so basically from the surface that it was sitting on, to the top of it)

    My Acer Predator 15 that I've just sold, had the exact same specs. It's quite capable system.
    I'm a massive Alienware fan btw. I've had an M15x that I upgraded to GTX 970m and 920xm with a 330w brick and a modded power plug (no center pin) that thing was a BEAST, best BIOS in a laptop. Then I had an m17x r2, m17x r3, m17x r4, a couple of m18x r2s ... I actually still have my m17x r2 with the gorgeous RGB LED screen :D They don't make them like that anymore! I miss the old days.

    Even though it doesn’t have GSync is screen tearing noticeable with the 144hz screen?
    I’m really hesitant to buy a new laptop without GSync otherwise this laptop would be pretty high on my list of laptops to buy.
    I hear people say you really don’t need GSync when you have this high a refresh rate but those are only the people that don’t have a GSync screen!
    I’m really a big fan of GSync and think it’s one of the best things to happen to screens in a long time. I’m trying to convince myself I doesn’t matter.

    I actually thought the Aorus was bigger.
    I ordered the legion y740 15 at the same size pretty much. Mainly for the dedicated mouse click buttons and no number pad (clearly trying to recreate the feel plus its design resembles it).

    Mine arrived today.

    The is not great. It is not bright and the color reproduction is not great.

    The model is the LGD05E8 (LP156WFG-SPB2), which is a medium range panel. Normally used in budget laptops. It is not as good as the Razer 15

    Here is a review of it: https://www.ultrabookreview.com/21758-asus-tuf-fx505-review/

    Panel HardwareID: LG Philips LGD05E8 (LP156WFG-SPB2);
    Coverage: 98% sRGB, 69% NTSC, 74% AdobeRGB;
    Measured gamma: 1.9;
    Max brightness in the middle of the screen: 260 cd/m2 on power;
    Contrast at max brightness: 640:1
    White point: 7600 K;
    Black on max brightness: 0.41 cd/m2.

    Also the fan never turns off. Its really annoying. Even when it is doing nothing. More info to come as I keep reviewing

    That review states the monitor is average, not terrible, even by ultrabookreview.com’s standards. Also they said to expect better results once calibrated. Also it’s a gaming laptop, not one meant for content creators,
    so most people couldn’t care less about the colour reproduction and the like.

    About the fans; since the iGPU has been switched off and the dGPU is always running, it’s kinda obvious that the fans will be constantly running even on idle.

    Unsure if you own the laptop or not, but it really is frustrating the fan noise. Screen I can live with. I just don't want people thinking this is a good screen. It is mediocre

    That aw13 r3 spoils you. If you take that out the picture. Is the Aorus still any good in its own merit.
    Looking at pictures here I can see it’s not an “amazing” thing to look at. It look alright. But that would go hand in hand with the screen quality.
    Try the y740 with a 2070 mq (surely that’s enough power still from I assume the 1060) if you return it.
    People are hyping it up and I bought one because it looks like they was influenced by that Alienware generation but did a slightly nicer job with it and it’s a bit close to the size of the r3 with 144hz gysnc.

    Interesting. If i'm reading you right, you feel the Lenovo is nicer. The thing that is killing me is how loud the fans are on this. I checked in the bios if i can re enable the igpu but i can't find a way. Do you know if there is a way to do it?

    Honestly in my opinion, GSYNC is a must for me. I notice a huge difference when playing without GSYNC on games below 70 fps. I would assume buying a laptop with nothing less than a 2080 would make getting a GSYNC laptop mute but I'd highly recommend it with 2060 - 2070s that barely top out the most graphical intense games at respectable framerates.

    I think the tearing is pretty bad tbh. I just played an hour of Battlefield 1. It was smoother on my external display at 60fps 4k than on the internal display 100hz.
