Anyone having trouble with BSODs on the Aero 15?

In particular with the nvidia drivers. I keep getting periodic page fault BSODs with the nvidia kernel driver being at fault. Doesn't seem to happen in games using the dGPU, just on the desktop when something wakes it up. It isn't super common, but it happens often enough it isn't a one-off thing.

Anyone else seeing this and, better yet, know how to solve it?

Have you changed any system parameters like the EmptyProject11.exe etc?

This may not be related but I came across an occasional BSOD on a Aero 14 I've been setting up for a friend for the past couple of days - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

Upon investigating further it's most likely down to the Nvidia driver, which was the latest one released a few days ago. It only started once I updated to the latest one so for the time being I've kept the on an older version that is pushed via Windows Update (Originally tried to keep it on the official one that is provided by Gigabyte but Windows still updates to version 7586 or something). Though since downgrading the version it's been running fine.

From what I've researched online it's generally recommended to only use a driver that is listed on the Gigabyte website or via the Smart Update to ensure stability.

EmptyProject11.exe can be sorted out straight away by updating to the latest version of Smart Manager - I highly recommend it as EmptyProject11.exe on the old version hogs CPU resources and diminishes battery life.

I was using the version that was provided by smart update, but then Windows updated to version 1703 and updated to a new driver when it did. I'm not sure how easy it is to get it to downgrade after that.

The system parameters I've changed are just a few power settings, mostly disabling hibernation, increasing WiFi performance on battery, and changing the screen sleep time. I don't know what emptyproject11.exe is.

I also gave Creators Update (build 1703) a go on the friends Aero 14 to begin with but personally I didn't like how it ran - still buggy overall within navigating in Windows, plus I also came across problems with Optimus with Windows struggling to determine which GPU to use as & when.

Therefore I've kept it on Anniversary which is what it shipped with, still runs miles better for the time being.

EmptyProject11.exe is a process that is used by Gigabyte's Smart Manager that helps controls Nvidia's Optimus, though the older version of Smart Manager has a bug which therefore makes the laptop run on the Nvidia GPU all the time and uses up the CPU usage, hence why it hinders battery life.

I don't seem EmptyProject11 anywhere in running processes (using Process Explorer) though I've done nothing specific to remove/disable it. I will say I get a ton of optimus lag, doing things like ctrl-alt-del and such. I may have to try rolling back to 1607,though I don't know how long you can suppress the update for. May have to get windows pro for that.

It sounds like you're running into very similar issues that I had with the Aero 14 I was working on when I first upgraded to the Creators Update. For now at least I'm still leaving it on 1607 as it runs miles better, it's also generally known that Creators Update will not run perfect for everyone out there for the time being - Microsoft themselves admitted that it still has flaws not long ago.
