So I just pulled the pre-order trigger on this: https://www.gentechpc.com/product-p/aero-15x-v8-bk4k4p.htm

I went back and forth with the damn display for days but decided on the 4k. I like the idea of a fast refresh but I will make the adjustment as i really enjoy crips high resolution displays. I was going to order a macbook pro until i found this incredible machine. Very excited to see how this one plays out once I get it.

Yeah, I figure if I start to play a lot of games and have issues on some racers or fps I will just buy a monitor to play it on. I would much rather have a 4k for everything else. When it comes down to it I enjoy a higher res dsplay

Wow, pretty brave to buy a gigabyte system.

Post your experiences with it after a couple of weeks please :)

Thanks for bringing positivity to me in my thread. Pretty sure any electronics purchase just a risk. I will never understand this kind of post from trolls.

If it helps, I am liking the Aero series a lot, it's possible some of the negativity comes from the older P series.

Created an account to ask this question: what the shipping timeline for the Aero 15x w/4k screen? I'm seeing mid-late may but other vendors have dates ranging from May 4th to May 31st.

@Nibert if you have issue with 4K while gaming (because of the power needed for playing at such high definition) you can play at FHD resolution as 4K-->FHD scaling is really great without quality degradation ;)

Also interested in 4K model, need to do lots of Office work and video editing. And shifting from MacBook Pro with Retina display makes me reluctant to go back to 1080P :)

    I
I haven't followed the laptop scene much but I really don't like the thick bezel either. I looked at a lot and the battery life on this and all the features is perfect. I'm excited to see how it goes. I wish that @GenTechPC would answer a couple emails I sent out. I haven't used them and I dint know much about them.

Email Hidevolution and ask for Ted or Donald. They are very good at responding and answering any questions you have.

Nice i received the FHD version 2 days ago.
Any idea what the first things are you going to do to it?
I read of deleting bloatware and installing throttlestop.

Haven't done any of that yet.

What i can tell you is that it still has occasionally the double key / bounce issue. I applied the registry fix to it now, will see if its better. Am a bit disappointed that they didn't manage to fix it for this version.

Just as i have been writing this post it doubled again on one letter. :(

No need to be upset, I'm legit happy to see that there are still people around who offer themselves as test canidates. Gigabyte has quite a bad reputation when it comes to their notebooks, I'm always interested to see if they started to change or not. It's like acer, back in the days those were cheap garbage notebooks, today their notebooks are really decent.

Got a P37X v6 and it's a beast ... got also an aorus X7 DTv7 it is a monster that can crush everyting in QHD. So Gigabyte laptop don't manufacture the best laptop (for example the P37X is the noisiest laptop i get with 50db and could be really really hot on a game like assassin's creed origin that push the cpu up to 100%) ... but gigabyte laptop aren't garbage; They are pretty good in fact ... a lot of progress was made (still have progress to make ;) )

So my concern is that I ordered on 4/17 and haven't heard anything. Site says a 6% fee for cancelling a pre order which kind of makes me mad.

So I am in OCONUS and the cell phone is all pre paid. I can't call until Sunday or Monday I day when I get to work. I don't have anyone that can call for me. I have sent quite a few emails...I keep changing my mind. I would have just thought for the money that they would have reached out. I just want to make sure I made the right purchase.

So after a bunch of emails I am keeping the pre order. He said that they switched keyboard vendors so hoping that issue is worked out. If I play a game it would be ghost recon wildlands or maybe Warcraft so I'm not concerned with 144hz. I am just excited about everything else this machine offers.

You will not have any issues with the 4K panel. And the gtx1070 running all modern games! You’ll be surprised at how it performs. I’d suggest a heavy heavy overclock though.

4K panel is worth it! People say it’s kind of hard to see, but I’ve got pretty good vision. So I can read the text pretty well, and enjoy the extra real estate.

    Also you can simply

When my laptop was on the way, I was prepared to just run games at 1440P.. summing my 4K ips Pantone display as just for movies, or programs and things.

It’s surprising for sure as how the gtx1070 will run virtually anything @4K ultra detail without AA at 40-60fps.

Even FARCRY 5 all detail on ultra, TSaa on averages 42fps.

Well, I’d say you got your money worth. And your lucky you didn’t buy a Mac. I don’t think the Mac can hardly run anything at low resolutions, let alone its native resolution. They use marketing, and sleek pretty pictures to reel you in! When In reality there laptops perform like a $699 dollar windows laptop.

There’s a test on YouTube and it compares a desktop gtx1070 vs a laptop gtx1070.

The laptop is down clocked to 1,485Mhz boost. And the desktop is running at standard 1,785mhz boost levels.

The slower clocked laptop GTX1070 was 5% faster across the board than the desktop part even while running -300mhz slower!

Once you add in overclocking, or even possibly repaste, or you may even use Liquid metal! This Max Q variant can easily match a overclocked full power model!

I’ve seen Max Q gtx1080’s running at 2,012Mhz first hand in 1080P! Which is just astonishing performance from such a thin device.

This Aero 15X V8 is the perfect candidate for this!

It’s free performance, plus the video cards already overclock them selves dynamically. Your just giving it a boost.

I overclocked the gpu from Aero 15x v8 FHD144Hz with MSI Afterburner, although without painful undervolting/overvolting with frequency/voltage graph, I have only archived +215MHz core frequency and +650~700MHz memory frequency with 3DMark Fire Strike.

Maybe it will be better to do overclock after reapplying the thermal paste, something like Liquid Metal.

Overclocking is a useful tool. My (4) core 7820HK is running on par with a (6) core 8750H that just came out. Sometimes much faster, but usually on par with it.

I’m at 4,720Mhz daily now. Liquid metal got me there! I’d say that’s a lot of free performance!

Just wondering how Windows and most programs handle 4K at the moment.

I’m currently holding my breath in hopes of Apple announcing a MacBook worthy of the “Pro” name but if they don’t, which is likely, I’ll definitely go for the Aero.

I really recommend GS65 instead of Aero 15x v8, it has a really horrible keyboard. Not just about the feeling of typing. There's serious problems about typing sensitivity due to inappropriate hardware key switch design.

I really enjoy windows 10 With 4K. My laptop was set to 250% scaling when I first got it. And I changed it to 100% " No scaling " at all. I have been using it that way ever since. I do not wear glasses, and, I'm using a 17" laptop. Sometimes if I need better viewing, if I'm doing a lot of work on multiple windows, I will set my scaling to 125% But, I have not done that in a while.

I really like 4K, I like the pixel density, I like all of the room I have for working with applications.

Everything I use has no issues with 4K. It is very rare, if I run in to some kind of problem with 4K, and scaling issues.
