aha. I thought about it as I clicked on Post Reply lol.
I'll try to remove that stick and see what comes of it. Can I also disable it in BIOS?

i uninstalled gigabyte fusion, and the lag that happens when opening task manager disappeared!!

For sure the keyboard software is causing issues/ lagging the laptop.

Gigabyte, get back on the ball! The software you release is glitchy and crappy. I am still on day 1 nvidia drivers, and am scared to update since i work on this laptop, and at times i need to leave it on overnight compiling. 3k laptop, have to treat like its a crappy 500 used laptop.

That was it! No heating up anymore after removing the 2nd M.2 stick. I guess it might be a faulty unit? It's a 970 EVO 250GB.

Probably not faulty, NVME drives do run quite hot and it doesn't really get any active cooling from a fan.

Yeah, I have a 1TB WD Black and it sometimes feels warm there too. Operating temp for these seems to be 0-70C.

Would even a small bit of thermal pad help here? Maybe it would push heat more towards the bottom of the chassis instead of the palmrest?

It's like they listened or something...
    https://www.gigabyte.com/Laptop/AERO-15X--i7-8750H#support-dl-driver-vga

Sidenote- I called customer service yesterday to inquire about getting new screws for my unit.
I was then redirected to email customer service instead.. I found that kinda funny..

Anyway the plan is to open my unit and apply some IC diamond paste.. My slightly older laptop
uses the same compound and I'm still getting day one temps after almost two years; never seen my cpu hit more than 87c, gpu has never gone north of 80c.

My Aero unit is just ok thermally.. I have noticed that CPU heavy games will push the thermals to the limit.
Games like Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed will lock you into 90c CPU/GPU guaranteed.. Whereas games
like Nier Automata and Yakuza 0 behave within normal limits 78c cpu, 83c gpu..

I use this laptop for work as well.. It's by far the best day to day laptop I've ever used. The temps and fan noise
are almost nonexistent, and the battery is a world beater.

I'll look into the Fusion software glitch.. I haven't noticed it personally.

It looks like they are getting very close to having the almost perfect laptop for it's target audience. It seems keyboard is the only area they need to fix (and maybe a bit of their software). I think these two issues are the only things which are making people have a go at the Razer Blade/XPS 9570 instead.

Yea, the lagging from the fusion keyboard software was bad.

With the pastes, i got LM done by HID, so im not too sure the performance differences from IC.

Even with undervolt at -125mv , and deep cool fan curve. I still hit thermal throttle on overwatch.

With the new drivers for nvidia on gigabytes driver page , brings some hope.

But even then, they are good motherboard manufactures, just not laptops with their software.

Thinking about buy one of these, after a couple months of use is the OS still garbage and do you get BSOD’s? And how about the keyboard and track pad?

For someone considering the Razer Blade 15, Aero 15x and the XPS 15 9570 - what area's do you think the Aero 15X falls short on vs the others?

Sounds like it’s just the software like smart manager that can cause some problems but also maybe the keyboard and track pad, and possibly high thermal temps. I’m about to pull the trigger on one of these from HIDevolution. I think it’s better than the Razer Blade 15.

I've got a gen1 15X from last fall. The USB ports have never been 100% reliable, but I'm at a point now where they work little if at all for peripherals, and only for some USB storage devices.

I'm perplexed. I've got everything updated, no drivers missing from what I can tell.

Could someone with the same gen device take a look at USB controllers in their device manager and tell me if they see the same thing as attached?

    Thanks

For me, I threw out the MSI for lack of 4K screen and SD reader. The ASUS for lack of 4K screen and card reader. I could get by without the card reader (use a USB dongle). The 15x also seemed to have good upgrade potential. I’m also looking at the Lenovo P52 and X1 Extreme.

Hmm. The P52 has a 90wHr and the X1 Extreme has an 80wHr compared to 94ish and 97 on the 15X and 9570. I wouldn't call that paltry exactly...but to each their own. I'm plugged in 99% of the time. :)

I think 80Wh is too low when there are models with up to 96WH - especially if I am paying more for these machines. You're right the P52 is good for it, but for me I was looking at X1 realistically.

If you look around the forums you will see plenty with regards to the Blade vs. GS65 vs. Aero 15x. You will find less comparing the machines with the XPS 15. Here is a quick summary though, as each machine has its purpose and you should probably buy the one that matches the strengths you want.

    Aero 15x:
    - If you want full gaming performance AND battery life.
    - The QC on these machines are pretty bad, keyboard issues and software issues, but the build quality of the rest of the machine is pretty solid
    XPS 15:
    - Get this one if you have to have the best build quality AND battery life, but you don't need great gaming performance
    GS65:
    - No major QC issues that I have seen, but the battery life and build quality is behind the aero.
    Blade:
    - Ideally the best build quality of all the machines, but Razer has to yet to build a laptop that can survive more than a year.
    GX531:
    - hands down best cooling of all the machines
    - basically 0 battery life. This thing is a LAN party dream machine, but not much else.

    hm ....

Today I tried to play Call of Duty Black Ops 4 because it was open beta test day. On High graphics setup my CPU show 91°C and GPU show 74 °C ithink it's impossible for my setup. I have a liquid metal on CPU and GPU and made undervolt at -0.165 CPU. Anyone tried to play at last games ? Could you tell me your undervolt values for CPU and GPU ? What is the CPU and GPU temperature with these parameters at full load ? Thx !

That's what I see on latest titles where I'm running at 144hz. I have liquid metal as well and honestly I don't think it's useful on this machine. The heatsink isnt being cooled fast enough so the extra heat transfer from the liquid metal won't do much. I've been considering running some simple numbers for the heat conduction of the system to see the maximum potential benefit of LM. Without the dimensions and material of the heatsink it's difficult though.

Anyway, that's about the same CPU undervolt I have as well. I have a gpu undervolt but I'm usually too lazy to open evga precision every time I want to play a game.

Do you want original one or third party?
The "original one" costs $200 from the link that Donald provide.
The third party costs around $60. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B4Q2F94/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_.i36AbDQ6490F

The more expensive one has the USB port. Either 200W will work with Aorus and Gigabyte Aero 15X.

My left USB port has failed today. It was working one minute, and the next minute it died. Presently, my device manager looks exactly like yours. I've tried deleting the USB controllers and rebooting.

My keyboard LEDs are going crazy. There is some switch or something to the left side of the mousepad, when i touch that area leds do random stuff. They light up even when brightness is off, random colors etc.
Did anyone had this problem or now a possible solution?

Hi peeps ! Just want to share my current experience quickly.

Just received my 15x v8 2 days ago, its defintely a great computer but and I would like to share 2 things I am facing right now:

First one, GPU / gaming underperformance ?
I have been gaming a bit with it and I dont think it performes 100%.
Fornite set on Ultra everywhere is averaging 70 fps depending on the situation ingame. I was expecting a bit more tbh, and when I look at the task manager, I see that the gpu has a 60 to 70% work load and the igpu shows an activity of 40%.
On the other side, smart manager shows Temp of cpu/gpu averaging 70°C so i feel like its not fully trying its best, and somehow something is being shared between the two gpus.
I've seen a few posts here and there of people getting better results while using an external monitor (hence putting the work load only on the gtx1070).
What do you think? is that a normal behavior ?

I am running on a clean installed windows 1803, pretty much all drivers manually installed (igpu AND dgpu last drivers versions, greater than the ones proposed by smart update)
    CPU undervolted by -0.130

Seconde one, a battery life of 4h30 max, not playing game, juste browsing on chrome. GPU temp is marked Idle on the smart manager, and WakeupGPU not running.
"Day long" battery was one of this laptops assets, so I am a bit concerned there i have to say.

If anyone has some insight on that
    Cheers !

    Hey ^.^

I tried to play on The Division and The Ghost Recon® Wildlands with Ultra setting and my the task manager show 100% load for CPU and GPU. Temp was 86 °C and 80 °C for CPU and GPU (I have undervolt (-0.170)+ repast on liquid metal , clean install Windows 10 without any software The gigabyte excluding Fusion for keyboard led)

About a "Day long" where you find it ? On official site - tap they told about 10 Hours on maximum (I think it's possible if you shutdown wifi+BT , get screen brightness to low level and switch battery mode to ECO and you should use only notepad w dark theme).

P.S. Check in Windows 10 settings for battery mode, it will be in balance mode.(I don't trust the smart manager it's very baggy software)

    Didn't work unfortunately..

Is there a way to disable backlight completely?
I cant take this laptop to work anymore because as you might imagine it would be pretty embarrassing if the keyboard started to to do random rainbow coloring in the middle of the meeting.

Still think about the order. Alternatives from MSI and Razer looks like a bit disappointing.

Are there any significant problems with a clean installation of Windows? Can I use NVIDIA native drivers without issues? is it possible to completely abandon Gigabyte software?

    Thank you!

Right now, I am on NVIDIA Graphic 22.21.13.8554. If I update to the latest driver from smartupdate 24.21.14.1163. My computer runs really hot on idle and my fans are loud. Does anyone experience the same?

Hi ! You can read my review.

Yes, if you make clean installation of Windows, you should use Nvidia native drivers w/o issues and update it from Nvidia site. (I do it without any problem) Also you should use Intel native drivers (better for you it's soft from intel - Intel Driver and Support Assistant. Program can find all drivers whats you need and make install, also it help you check drivers updates from intel.)
Unfortunately for keyboard led you should install Gigabyte Fusion software and if you need it Gigabyte Smart Manager for use a FN key combinations (I don't installed last one).

Hi guys. Waiting for FedEx with my Aero and preparing for clean Windows install.
Can you please provide an updated list with drivers for this notebook?
For example, I found this ( Gigabyte AERO 15X NVIDIA Graphics Driver 23.21.13.8878 for Windows 10 64-bit) recommended for Aero 15X driver from NVidia, but it looks like was released in May 2017.
On NVidia official site I see the more updated version, but I'm not sure if in our case newer means is really better.
As I understand from different topics it is better to install all drivers manually and not via SmartUpdate.
Could somebody please provide links to recommended drivers?

UPD: Ok, so I found official Gigabyte page with drivers:
    https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Laptop/AERO-15X--i7-8750H#support-dl-driver-vga

Still a little bit confused about different versions that appear there. Especially, in video drivers and Utilities.
