Aero 15 Review!

Just got this laptop and it is amazing! Extremely light, and the screen bezel is really thin. Perfect laptop for university purposes and also gaming purposes.

The layout of this keyboard is a bit unusual, and will take a few days/weeks to get used to. Other than that, it is a great laptop nontheless. The screen is just amazing, and the RGB lighting makes the laptop very aesthetic.

it has its flaws, but yeah, it's one of the better thin and lights out there.

Probably the soon come out Alienware m15? Seems like interesting ordeal.

Like everyone else has said, it really depends on your needs. For me I looked at the following before pulling the trigger.

Ideally wanted something with a 1050ti, 8750H, 2 ram sockets (accessible), 1 or more m.2 (accessible - 2.5" drive slot would be a plus for a large archive mechanical), 1080p, thin bezels, Thunderbolt 3 (x4 lanes) and good build quality. Also NOT looking like a game machine so I could carry it into work without people saying "So you play video games huh?"

- The 1050ti was a good compromise between size / heat and performance. Outside of work (MS Office / excel) I mostly RPG/MMO and not FPS so I didn't need too much GPU horsepower
- 2 ram sockets accessible (dual channel, expandable down the road if I wanted)
- m.2, it's NVME or nothing nowadays. Socketed means future upgrades down the road (or upgrade right away, it's up to you)
- 1080p, good enough for work and good fps for some games. Higher res = need more GPU = more heat blah blah blah
- Thin bezels, it's 2018, so it has to look decent at the office and the coffee shop
- Thunderbolt 3, expandable storage or other options in the future including EGPU
- Good build quality. Given the pricing most laptops with these features cost, good build quality for the money your spending.

As a Dell fan, I originally looked at the XPS 15 and the very similar Lenovo X1 but as I was searching for availability and pricing, I noticed some gaming laptops that were slightly bigger that were also in the same ballpark. The Zephyrus S, Alienware m15, Razerblade 15 (new), Gigabyte Aero 15x, MSI 65 Thin.

Zephyrus S was 99.0% what I wanted. I've had good luck with Asus, so no problems with buying another - but no Thunderbolt 3 = no future eGPU or fast external storage.
Alienware m15 was good but availability is spotty since it's a new model and I wanted something now. Pricing was also on the high side due to newness and size was one of the larger ones in my selected group.
Razerblade was also close - I really liked the base model since it had room for a 2.5" drive and I wanted to lug around ALL of my data but new model and pricing was on the high side especially when compared to the other computers.
MSI 65 Thin - 99.99% almost everything on my checklist BUT flipped motherboard (all slots are on the side facing away from the bottom panel) = pain in the ass to do any upgrades or changes. The looks (for me) were also not the best in the group.

So I finally settled on the Aero 15x.

It has good build quality, I'd say tier 2 (if you say Apple and XPS are tier 1 / maybe Razer also), not bad at all - not the best, but definitely by far not the worst. All the features on my checklist, including upgradability (plus 2x m.2 slots!). The fact that they give you 1x 16gb out of the box and leave a slot open for upgrades - definitely a plus (vs. 2x 8gb like most others). Standard m.2 slots both easily accessible and swappable from the bottom and a full on Thunderbolt 3 port.

The best part relative to all the others is I got it on sale (1070maxq, 16gb, 500gb, 1080@144)!
