Your laptop should have an internal wifi card already(Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 5000AGN). You should have "n" already and that is the top dog right now. a and g are slower.
    See here: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2009/PSeries/P-78/P-78sp24.shtml

    Also:
IEEE 802.11n-2009 is an amendment to the IEEE 802.11-2007 wireless networking standard to improve network throughput over the two previous standards — 802.11a and 802.11g — with a significant increase in the maximum raw data rate from 54 Mbit/s to 600 Mbit/s with the use of four spatial streams at a channel width of 40 MHz.

    In a word - FASTER.

802.11n is definetly faster. But the figures are always the maximum throughput which is not gonna happen in reality. Even if 600 or 400 or 200 Mbps rate they say about 802.11n is not achieved and instead you only 54Mbps its still gonna be the fastest.
