I have installed GRID on my 6860FX, and it looks beautiful, but I am having the same freezing problem as seen on this video of someone playing GRID on an Xbox:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEThdWIovtU

In fact, my freezing problem is worse because if I get in a wreck it can freeze up for 10 seconds or more. I've tried all kinds of different things:

    - updated GRID to version 1.2
    - turned on/off sound hardware acceleration
    - went from 4xAA to 2xAA
    - defragged hard drive, multiple times
    - turned off avast

Nothing works. In fact, it seems to be getting worse as time goes by. I'd love to play this on my laptop but as things stand right now it is unplayable. Any ideas?

Unless it's a CPU problem (because I upgraded mine to a T9300), I have had no problems running this game... which video card drivers are you using? Maybe you just need to try a different set.

I am running the 177.98 Forceware drivers from laptopvideo2go.

Also I'm still on the T5500 CPU, everything in my laptop is stock.

I wouldn't think the CPU was actually the problem.... but you never know.

Just a quick question, do you use the Nvidia Control Panel? It's easy to leave some high AA enabled on accident, that can cause problems in games :D

But other than that, you could try using a different driver.... sometimes some driver versions just don't get along well with specific games. It's a pain to switch them though, but I've been happy with the 177.83 drivers, I installed them for the PhysX and haven't seen a need to change them yet.

Have you tried other intensive 3D games to see if similar problems occur? Definitely do that to see whether it is the game or your computer. Maybe the portion of the hard drive that GRID is installed on is a little messed up and you just need to reinstall GRID. Update to version 1.2?

I already updated GRID to version 1.2 and that did not help.

As for other games I can play Spore and Half Life 2 for hours and hours and there is no freezing at all. However, GRID is probably pushing the system a lot further than Spore or HL2 are. I'm going to try installing Crysis tonight and see how well it runs.

That Youtube video also said Update: Fixed after removing and replacing HDD. Try to uninstall, defrag, reinstall, defrag, and see if that helps.

Can someone point me to a driver cleaner type program? I had one a couple of years ago but it has gone from freeware to payware.

I'll try going from the 177.98 to the 177.83 drivers this afternoon.

Thanks royk50. Downloaded Driver Sweeper and ran it. Right now I'm just running the default drivers from Gateway. I installed Crysis and played it for 25 minutes. Runs flawlessly, FPS got a little low in a couple of spots but that's expected. Crysis does not freeze like GRID does, though. So now I'll do another defrag and try installing GRID again.

OK I'm running off the generic Gateway drivers (from Windows Update). Seems to be working, I played GRID for about 45 minutes, there were a couple of minor hiccups (no big deal) and one very minor "freeze". Nothing even close to the problems I was experiencing before.

God this game looks good.. I'm sitting here playing it and thinking to myself "I... am playing... this beautiful freaking game... with smooth as silk framerates... on an $800 LAPTOP!"

    remove the 1.2 patch.

My grid crashed with the 1.2 patch. with 1.1 patch will work just fine.
