First off..I am just wondering why the HD states under my computer that it only has 286GIG HD when im suppossed to have 320? What am I missing?Where can I view whether I have a 5400rpm HD or 7200rpm HD. Obviously the specs on the box and online and from gateway state the 7805u has the 7200rpm but I just want to view it with my own eyes :( Just for piece of mind bc sometimes the HD feels slows

Also, everytime I boot up my laptop the HD is working for like 10 minutes??I have little to no startup programs and I am wondering what it is working on? Is task manager the only thing that will show me what its doing? Thanks!

You have a recovery partition taking up about 10GB i believe.
And remember a GB = 1024 MB but is sold GM = 1000MB so the 320GB drive is in reality a 296GB drive.

Open up your device manager... or down load HWMoniter, or run a Hard Drive Benchmark, or just take the drive out and have a gander
Any of those ways will show you your hard drive

Remember while 7200 RPM is faster than 5400 RPM it is not an insanely fast drive like a SSD.

As to your HD working alot... thats Vista. Its working in the back ground tweeking your system alot with 4K writes. Dont worry its perfectly normal, just a bit annoying.
