I own a fujitsu n3410 and i gotta say, it is an awesome machine! sturdy, good build quality, and (probably the most frequently mentioned feature) the high quality LCD screen. it's the best LCD I found in the $1000 price range and I love it! or at least I did, until it broke. now I'm stuck with this awesome laptop that I can't use! (well I can't use it as a laptop, anyway). Fujitsu tech support told me over the phone that a replacement screen will cost me ~$750, which is over 3/4 the price of the laptop itself! I can't afford that, and probably wouldn't bother if I could. is there anything I can do to salvage my laptop? I've considered turning it into an HTPC, since it came with windows MCE 2005, but there in lies my problem.. all I have is the restore DVD that fujitsu provides. apparently it's not an install DVD and it only works with fujitsu products. if I change any of the hardware, I'm assuming the DVD won't work. can anyone offer any advice please?

Do you know what's broken? You might be able to take it to a local computer repair place to get it fixed.

it just so happens that I do; the LCD screen. everything else works fine. I can turn it on and use it normally, except theres a black hole at the top center of the screen and a thin crack that extends down to the bottom left corner. I've looked up prices, and I -really- don't want to shell out the $400 bucks it takes to get a new screen from a 3rd party retailer, and I'm even less enthusiastic about the $750 it'll take to have Fujitsu do it. I guess what I really want to know is if I can still make use of the other (non-CPU) parts, or should I just forget that idea? Of these parts, the most important ones that I can think of are the HDD, the dvd/cdrom drive, and maybe even the motherboard. Thanks anyway for the reply.

Ahhh, that sucks. I guess you could hook it up to an external monitor and have a nice desktop. :(
