Best price I've found online - I'm wondering if it's wise to order from here or go ahead and spend a little more and buy direct from Fujitsu? I'm very interested in buying from COL because I'm starting college this fall and paying for everything myself (including the computer), so I'd like to spend as little as possible. Any advice is appreciated. TIA.

I assume you have looked at http://www.portableone.com

Here are a couple of reviews of the company:

    Does not look good.
    Buyer Beware.

You should definitely buy from portableone. They are fujitsu reseller/authorized repair place, only repair with new parts, and have a no dead pixel guarantee. You can also ask about a 5% student discount. You'll have to fax them a copy of your student ID. I did that rather than get the free RAM upgrade. Granted the ram was probably worth more than the discount, but I still have never used 512MB of RAM at any point in time, and the extra 100 bucks off was nice.

I've never heard of the discount, but you will have to call, there's no entry for that online.

Yes, you have to call and ask portableone. I saw the academic discount on the Fujitsu website, and asked portableone whether they had one. I'm a student and need all the breaks I can get. Portableone's site doesn't mention the academic discount, as Brian posted earlier.

    kathleen,
I don't believe fujitsu direct has free shipping. They didn't when I ordered mine. You would have to look on their site and see. It would have been in the same spot where you saw the academic discount. I haven't seen them offer that on any of the other machines. I believe the base price for my n5010 from portable one was the same as fujitsudirect. I also believe that portableone has a more friendly/customer oriented return policy.

There may be an issue with sales tax as well as shipping. Sony Dell, etc do charge extra for this. There is none for Newegg, Port1, etc.
