i am in the UK, and I've found a nice looking cheap fujitsu notebook called the amilo si 1520. However, looking at fujitsu in the notebook database, there seems to be a different naming system, namely, the "lifebook".

(Why isn't amilo listed in the fujitsu section?)

Which model is it that I'm looking at? and is it any good? It's really really cheap over here.

    thanks.

edit: over here, they're selling it with the core 2 duo 1.83 Ghz too for under £700 from many online vendors.

    here

    here

    and

    here

websites seem a bit dodgy with very few details, not even a pic, and very little stock, but still, it's surprising that so many places are claiming to have the same model and at such a low price.

The stock is probably low since the model is new.

I believe that the grand majority of notebooks in the database are models available in the U.S. and Canada. The Lifebook series is available only in these markets (and Japan, I believe along with some models exclusive to the Japanese market like the Biblo series) and the Amilo series available only in Europe, Pan/Pacific region, essentially the rest of the world. I don't believe there are equivalents between the Lifebook and Amilo series, two completely different animals. Why two different notebooks lines for different parts of the world, I have no idea.

Amilo is Fujitsu's consumer series, featuring crappy plastic cases. It's not available in the US and that's the reason why Fujitsu has such a good opinion there :)

You may also want to check Amilo Pro V3205, which is virtually the same computer but has (or at least should have) a better case. Both even have the same (now that's cost-cutting) manual.

My first post here, hope I'm helpful.

If you are in the UK, beware that Fujistsu tech support/customer service here is crap. I sent my laptop in for service one month ago and they havent still retunred it, nor have they even had courtesy to communicate with me. I call them like twice a week and they say nothing.

Dont spend your money on them.

I really like this laptop [small and power] and I would not like to send it back, but hey! who can stand this plastic crap!? Hopefully, they developed different casing for this new series. At least now you know why it is so cheap.
    Good luck

I wish I knew more about how cheap / dodgy the machines and service are. The core 2 duos are now available apparently at

    http://www.nice-pc.co.uk/mid_range_laptops.html

I'm really thinking about buying one.

ggrrooooar - have you looked at the other thread on the si1520 / v3205? In the website pictures there looks to be a gap in the casing around the keyboard at the top I reckon?

I just bought a Si1520, old version with Core Duo but for a great price. Havent noticed any quality problem, but it does get quite hot.
