    Hey Everyone,

Now that I have the P5 around, I realize that I need to set up a wireless network! Especially, since all my router ports are being used up!

So, since I am starting from scratch, (Well, I may just link it to my Linksys router's uplink port.) any recommendations?

I'm leaning towards the Buffalo WBR-G54 Airstation Router for its ability to stream ReplayTV shows, act as independent bridges to expand coverage throughout the house (I will eventually have three of them set up), and offer four wired ports for easy expansion.

    Thoughts?

I'm not real familiar with Buffalo, I've always been a Netgear person. I have the b/g router (WGR614) and love it. You can pick it up for $50 after rebates right now from Amazon.

Well, I did end up ordering a Buffalo Airstation from Computers4Sure. It was $84.95 with free shipping AND a $30 rebate! The best part is I also went through Ebates and am getting an additional 3% back in the form of cold hard cash! You just have to love these kind of deals.

If anyone is interested in saving extra money on all their purchases, sign up for Ebates. It's free and you have to do is go through their portal to shop. Computers4Sure has a 3% rebate. There are Dell, Amazon and other computer sellers there also.

Here's a link to sign up for Ebates. (Uh, I get a little commission also if you use this link.[ :D])

[ :D]Woohoo! I am now totally wireless! I hooked up the Buffalo Airstation WBR-54G to my DSL modem and my DTPC. Configured it and got the PC to access the net. Then I hooked up the Powermac and RTVs. Everything seems to be working fine. Then the big test came up.

Walked out into the family room where, what else, the family is hanging out and sat down with them. Opened the P5 and after telling the P5 to connect even though no WEP was set, I was connected! So, here I sit, no longer chained to my desk. My kids are starting to remember who I am![ :p]

Now, do I need to have WEP? What is that? Great. A whole new set of terms and protocols to learn.[xx(]

If you don't set a WEP key, I can sit outside your house and surf the web on your dime. Oh yeah, I can also hack into your machines and steal any information on them. Need any more motivation to set up a WEP key?

So, that's you sitting out there in the 86 Thunderbird in gray primer![8D]LOL!

I tried turning on WEP, but I got these three choices:

WEP It is the encryption system which can be used by many wireless personal computers.

TKIP It is the system which strengthened WEP further. (Transmission speed falls a little.) The wireless personal computer side also needs to correspond to TKIP.

AES It is a next-generation encryption system firmer than TKIP. The wireless personal computer side also needs to correspond to AES.

I guess AES is the more robust security scheme, but I can't figure out where the key comes from. Do I make a up a number, like a password? The one lame thing about Buffalo is a distinct lack of decent documentation. I am loath to call tech service, but I just may have to![xx(]

[ :D]Thanks, Myke! It is pretty damn cool to be surfing the net from just about anyplace! My only concern right now is security.[:0] So, I've been playing around with different settings.

Got the P5's MAC address registered with the router. Now, I think, no other wireless device can connect, right?

Still trying to figure out this WPA thing. I can't find a place to enter a WEP or WPA encryption key code on the P5. Weird.[B)]

    I'm getting there, though.[:I]
