Will I be able to watch a 2.5 hour DVD running on battery only?
Please weigh in if you've got experience--I'd be using it in the cheapseats on a 727 fairly often.

    Thanks!

hmmm, yes you shouldn't have a problem with this as long as you turn off wi-fi and don't have a bunch of peripherals plugged in or anything like that. Might want to think about stepping down the brightness to 75% too to ensure the battery lasts. I would often get just over four hours when using the laptop in a regular way.

If watching movies is mission critical, why not splurge and get a Battery Charger(FPCBC06)so you can re-charge two additonal batteries. You'd need the dvd player so you couldn't take advantage of the modular lithium ion bay battery, but you could stick an extra main lithium ion battery in your backpack easily.

if you can, don't watch directly off the DVD. Copy an image before you enter the plane.

I read it may save some battery life by just reading it off the HD.

    Thanks for the suggestions...
The extra battery would be a nice splurge, I'll consider that.

And creating an "image" of the DVD: Does the HD really run more efficiently than the optical? IF so, that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

But also, just to clarify, has anybody ACTUALLY watched a whole DVD while unplugged on the 6231? I would like to hear if you have. (OR if you've tried and failed.) THanks.

Yes, you can do it but you will need to turn brightness down a touch as Andrew suggested. The HDD takes less batttery than the DVD drive, but you have to go through the process of ripping it...maybe not a lot of work, but a pain if you ask me.
