    Hello,

I've been comparing the difference betweent he two selected models. Is the ONLY difference is that the S6220 has a faster, newer rendition of the Intel M processor???? (and 100mhz faster)?

Does the S6220 have other changes that fixes bugs/glitches???

I can basically get the same machine, technical specificatins wise...and the S6210 is $150 cheaper and only is 100mhz slower.

All help is much appreciated, thanks!

The only difference is the CPU. At $150 it would be worth it to me, but the average user will not see the performance gain.

Does both the 1.6ghz S6210 and the 1.7ghz S6220 have the Dothan CPU??? w/ the 2mb of cache.. or is it just the S6220?

Also, i was curious about if these laptops have a copy of windows on a reinstallation CD, or are they on a partition on the hdd??? Thanks

s6210 not using Dothan. i would say even more than average users wont notice the advantage of that dothan processor used in s6220. it is better to spend the money on upgrading the ram and hdd probably.

there is a recovery cd coming along with the windows on it. also a cd with the drivers/applications. and the 'record now" installation cd.

btw i am not sure if the keyboard on s6220 is any better than the s6210?? i would rate s6210 keyboard as average...

anyway s6210 is a very nice machine... i am very happy with it so far. (i just don't want to list the pro of s6210 as u can easily find tonnes of them through this forum). anyway u certainly can't go wrong with either of these machines!!! [8D]

So besides the 100mhz, the Dothan has 2mb cache versus 1mb that the 1.6ghz S6210 uses huh...

I found the S6220 for 1899 (with dvd burner, 60gb hdd, 512mb ram, 1.7ghz proc, xp pro)

And the S6210 for 1749 (with dvd burner, 60gb hdd, 512mb ram, 1.6ghz proc, cp pro)

So i just cant decide if its worth the extra 150 for the 100mhz and the extra mb of cache.. i too am thinking that id get more performance if i bought a stick of ram for it.. 512, so it'd bring me to 768 since these machines have two 256mb sticks of ram, not one 512 :(

Yes, more RAM would probably be more noticable. I would also save money by dumping XP Pro.

You don't need XP Pro unless you work in a corporate environment and access shared resources a good deal. Even then, I don't think it's worth the upcharge for most buyers. Not too late to save that money.

Re- these faster processor--are they replaceable -or permanently fixed to mother board. There are even 2 faster versions avail up to 2.0G on Intel site!!
    Very expensive tho > $600.

The CPU is fixed, but I believe it would require a BIOS update for the faster Dothan. I'm not sure I see the point though, especially at the current prices.

as brian said... i see no one will do an upgrade to the processor though. imagine this... i actually have a 3 years old toshiba satellite Pentium3. I would never imagine i will go for an upgrade to PM!!! so i bought the S6210 and keep the old machine for my kids.[ ;)]
