I want to buy a laptop sometime next month and so far, I am leaning toward Fujitsu. Is is it worth waiting for the updated S7010? I keep hearing "only a few more weeks", but I'm concerned that I'm waiting too long (around 3 months) to get a new laptop.

From what I've heard on this board, the S7010 has just a slightly larger screen than the S6210. Am I correct or are there any other differences between the two?

They are also different in that the S7000 will not get teh CV screen where the S6210 will.

the S7010 will not get the CV screen soon. It will have the Dothan which does parctically nothing to increase performance (see tomshardware.com review). Only good thing the S7010 refresh will do is perhaps lower the cost of current model.

YUP - I hear you, if it doesn't come directly from Fujitsu it should not be reported as fact. Well check out the fujitsu website for this one.

    http://webshop.fujitsupc.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=S7D

Look on the Fujitsu website and you will see 3 new S7010D models they all have a Dothan 735 chip but otherwise about the same as before. There is a 5400 rpm upgrade available for only $30.
The only old model is the 1.5 in either XP Pro or Home.

Frankly if you go with a 1.5 I think you notice the longer battery life before you notice a drop in performance.

Sorry to seem like a knuckelhead, but when you wrote that you would notice the longer battery life before noticing a drop in performance did you mean that the 1.5 might give a longer battery life?

Now that the screen thing has been cleared up (and BTW, in light of what is going on in the world perhaps we can all just give eachother a break,I'm sure that no one in this forum is deliberately trying to mislead anyone)I'm going to buy this week and I want to get the most bang for my buck. I'm either going for the 6010 or the 7010 and I would like to stay as close to $2000 as possible.....[)]

I think what Pack was saying is the PM 1.5 will offer noticably longer battery life, compared to the less noticable increase in performance from the Dothan chip. I tend to agree with his statement, if that is in fact what he was saying. [ :D]

that is what I am saying. You can't have a faster processor without consuming more power. The specs I have seen give the 1.5 an extra 10-15 minutes battery life. My S7010D is 1.7mhz (not the dothan) I got this config for the 512m or memory but was concerned even the 1.7 may seem sluggish compared to my desktop which is a amd 3200+. I can say the 1.7 is more than enough power to run ms-office type apps.

the new s7010d is now on the fujitsu site. The dothan 735 (1.7m) is there and also a 5400 rpm option for only $30. I'd say this config with 512m of ram is the way to go if you want to spend $1999.
