i'm deciding between the fujitsu s6210 & s6220, and would love to
hear advice or opinions on the difference between the two.
i do quite a bit of photo editing, and a little video,
though far less. otherwise, my primary concerns are the
basic trinity: speed, weight, & battery life. also, i'd prefer
a model that doesn't heat up under the palms too much. are there
significant differences in these considerations between these models?
i'm not terribly tech-savvy, so the difference in caches doesn't
mean a lot to me. . . so i'd be grateful for any explanation or
advice about these models, or even reagarding other laptops that are similar, e.g. sony vaio s150/170/230 or others. thanks!

They're both identical systems, just that the S6220 comes standard with a DVD Writer and a faster processor. Not a while lot of change, larger cache is always better for load up times, but its not really worth that extra money unless you're a crazed computer freak or something. The S6210 would do the same job just perfectly fine in what you're doing. The Sony Vaio S150/170/230 are nice, but pricey, and weighs a bit more then the Fujitsu S Series. Both are great systems, but I would go with the Fujitsu to get your moneys worth.[ :D]

I think the S6000 series offers the best value for the feature set in the thin and light category. It's just a really well done machine.

thanks for the help. a couple additional questions:
any advice on upgrading RAM? will going from 512
to 768, or even to 1024 be worth the money? i'm
primarily concerned with how long it takes to
edit photos-- on my current machine (tosh. sat 5205,
2.2 gig, 512 MB) it takes quite a long time to
do more in depth editing. would increasing RAM
help significantly? also, do you advise getting
the second battery for the 6210? how much more
time does it really add? and finally, should i
be afraid of buying off the internet from some of
these cheap-o sites? i've seen the 6210 listed
as low and $1350, but wonder if they're sketchy. . .
    thanks again for your help.

    I'd buy from www.portableone.com

They're reputable, call and ask for Ivan if you want to talk it over with them.

As for RAM, yes, investing in 1GB is worthwhile. It's the best upgrade you can make if you ask me. #2 would be the faster HDD.

The extra bettery will a little less than double your life. I just picked up a second battery for my P7 and am pleased with it.
