So, I was looking at an Apple iBook in the store yesterday and I noticed that it had become totally discolored from so many store visitors touching it. It looked really ugly, in fact, and made me wonder about their choice of white for the notebook.

So, what does this have to do with the S6231? Well, I've noticed it has a white keyboard. Does anyone know if the keys become discolored over time?

virtually everything becomes discolored over time, it's how plastics are.

my grey keyboards are becoming brownish, and my old Super Nintendo is a total light brown.

The keyboard hasn't been that color for very long. If anyone complains it will be a little disturbing this early in the game.

yeah, i dislike white keyboards for that reason. with the black keys on my thinkpad i just tend to use them so much they become more smooth and shiny, you can't see the dirt (well, except on the letters sometimes!) you can clean your keyboard of course, but it can only do so much.

Just out of curiousity, what does a replacement keyboard for the 6231 cost?

I completely agree. White keyboards should be outlawed! Seems like a no-brainer. Thankfully, the 6321 keyboard is not white. Its grey. Mine still looks grey after four months of pretty heavy use. But I am in the habit of keeping things clean. I use pre-moistened "SeeClear" pads, that are actually intended for eye glasses. Box of 100 costs about 8 bucks at Coscto. I also use them to clean the screen. I figure if they are good enough for glasses, they should be good enough for an LCD screen.

I have a microsoft natural keyboard that's at least 12 years old. It's still the same cream color as the day I bought it, and 10 of those years I was a smoker (quit 2 years ago, thus the two thousand dollar S6231+accessories was a gift to myself representing the money saved over 2 years time of not smoking).

I've never seen them, probably because when I walk past the optometry department on the way to the computer accessories, I look the other way as to avoid the glance of the workers in that department who look incredibly bored by the lack of business.

Isn't the LCD on the 6231 protected by a sheet of glass? I'll try them out on my glasses. I spend as little time as possible looking at my keyboards. Usually I'm focused on the screen, however I can see how the white white finish of apple and some sharp laptops would make blemishes distracting.

And I'm not very sharing when it comes to my main machine. No one else's hands will touch this keyboard until it gets relegated to backup duty.
