Hello everybody. I need some help from you guys. I am thinking of buying a new laptop, after a lot of research, I have decided to choose Fujitsu based on the reviews from this forum. It is tough to decide among S7020D, E8020D and N3510 without actually seeing them in person, I live in Canada :(
Anyways, I have evetually decided to get the N3510. Then I found out some people are saying the N3510 are not made in Japan any more... Is that true? I need your help on that. I think the japanese made laptops are higher in quality in general. At the same time, I am also interested in sony FS550 which I have access to in local stores, very fine looking, but the material seems a bit cheap. It is made in China. I guess if the N3510 is also made in China, I migh consider buying the sony instead...
Also, has anybody bought stuff from softwarecity.ca/directdial.ca? How is their reputation in the business?
Any input will be Highly appreicated. Thanks a lot.

what laptop is truly made in Japan? Most laptop companies, such as Fujitsu, Dell, HP, Sony, etc use ODMs to build their laptops, such as Asus, Uniwill, Compal, Quanta, etc..
these ODMs, are virtually all Taiwanese (some korean, some Chinese) and build notebooks for other companies under contract. Sony for example, uses Asus, while Quanta builds several of the HPs and Dell Latitude series. the Latitude X1 is actually based on a Korean Samsung model.

even if they are assembled in Japan, the components themselves are never from one place..that's how globalization and economics works.. you'd have a mother board from Taiwan, memory and HD from Korea, etc.

if it makes you feel better, the box for the E8020D series says Made in Japan. Is it all made in Japan? unlikely.

The N3510 is a great machine with one of the best displays I've ever seen. I would buy it oer the Sony, but the Sony is not a bad unit by any stretch. The 3510 is made in China from what I can tell, but like Goren noted, I wouldn't use that as an excuse not to buy.
