Has anyone seen the new Lifebook P771?

I would like to know if they have make the keyboard more solid. I have the P770, and the keyboard is springy in the centre.

Going to be dissasembling mine in a few weeks, and will see if it is possible to put something in to firm up the keyboard. Currently, mine is running with 1.25Tb of drive space, but I am finding that this is not needed. It has a 500Gb Seagate hybrid drive, which is not of benefit for the way I use the laptop, and a WD 750Gb 5400rpm drive in place of the optical drive. I am going to upgrade the main drive to a 750Gb WD Black drive, and reinstall the optical drive.

I am going to be in the market for a second laptop, and the P771 is interesting. Given that it might be used for photo and video editing at times, the ability to go beyond 8Gb memory might be useful, but that does not seem to have been included with the new design. Then again, 8Gb memory modules are far too expensive to be considered an option yet.....

I have the same question about the keyboard of the P771. I Checked out the new PH701 yesterday and the keyboard was terrible. It was so flexy in the middle that it felt like it was made of rubber.

My current Fujitsu is an old Lifebook P7230 which has one of the best keyboards ever made. It is as solid as a rock - better even than the Thinkpads which have long set the standard for non-chiclet style keyboards.

I would immediately buy a P771 if the keyboard felt solid and not flexy. But I am skeptical because it appears that the Fujitsu designers have decided to sacrifice the keyboard for less weight. This is a fundamental mistake.

The Lifebooks have been among the best 'super light' notebooks in the world, but now their new flexi-flimsy keyboards are destroying their good reputation.

I hope to try out the P771 in the next few weeks and will provide an update on the keyboard issue.

    I would agree.

It kind of blows me away - all they need is one or two plastic tabs on the bottom of the keyboard to make it solid. There is enough stuff under it to use as a support, so that the keyboard itself does not need to be rigid. This is an even cheaper form of engineering, one that IMHO comes from never having the designers/engineers/QA staff actually using the product itself.

The other side of the coin is that most new laptops are accepting 8Gb modules, giving 16Gb max for two slots, or 32Gb max for four slots. Far as I can see, the P771 is still limited to 4Gb max memory modules, for a max total of 8Gb. I am not sure if this really needs to change yet, but it does show that the design of the P771 may not be as current as they would have us believe.

Thanks for the article! Interesting, even after Google's translation...

I do wish they had used the space above the left and right arrow keys for a couple more, maybe PgUp and PgDn, or Home and End.

My P770 is still going strong, and except for the springy keyboard is about as good as I could wish for. It is now running with only one 750Gb WD Black drive. The optical drive will be reinstalled.....as soon as I can find it.....

    Here's another-
Fujitsu LifeBook P771 laptop review - reviews for UK IT professionals - V3.co.uk

I really don't like the look of the circular scroll mouse but it's not a deal breaker. Making the trackpad slightly bigger would have been more preferable. If i was condensing both of my notebooks this would be probably top of my list. I am interested in it. The latest HP 12.5 notebook does not use a ULV processor or even a LV processor. This laptop has the battery advantage.
I also like that the dvd drive is modular. For what it is i don't think that it is too expensive, it's cheaper in the UK than what it used to be anyway.

I also wish it came in another colour like white, but i've mentioned this before. I just find black pretty boring.

I've used a P7230 and i would disagree that the keyboard is one of the best. There to is flex there and reviews suggested that also. I'm sure that i'd be fine with the P771 keyboard though.

I saw some P770 going pretty cheap in the outlet store on ebay and i was tempted to get one for someone, i may do so a little later on.

This looks seriously interesting to me! Nice size & weight, fresh HW. If the label said Dell/HP/Lenovo I think there would be much more talk about this one!

Some questions arise when looking at the specs:

    - The advertised weight (1.3 kg), what battery capacity is used? No DVD I assume? If 3-cell, what would the weight be for a 6-cell option?
    - What is the standard included battery - 6 cell or 3 cell?

If anyone gets a chance to try one out I am very keen to hear your comments!

The North American models come with a 63whr battery and Fujitsu state that-
Battery Life4 Main Lithium ion battery (6-cell, 63W, 10.8V, 5800 mAh); up to 8 hrs. and 30 mins.
AC Adapter Auto-sensing dual voltage support, 100-240V AC supplying 19V DC, 3.16A, 60W

    Dimensions/Weight Approx. 2.89 lbs. with 6-cell battery and weightsaver. Approx. 11.1" (w) x 8.46" (d) x 1.18" (h); Approx. 3.1 lbs. with 6-cell battery and optical drive
    Fujitsu America - LIFEBOOK&reg P771 Notebook
There is a 67whr available and in the US you can configure a 67whr battery for an extra $20.

I'm not sure what 6 cell whr EU models are using.
It appears that the matt version with a standard voltage processor weighs a bit heavier than the glossy version.

I uploaded some pictures from the second review that i linked to. First picture is with a 6 cell and optical. Second one with the 6 cell and three cell modular battery. The third picture is with weight saver. A stripped 2.5 drive would decrease the weight further.

It has to be said now though at this price point Lenovo are selling the x220 with an IPS display. Again, the P771 with the ULV processor should have the battery life advantage.

This is the P771 parts list. I wonder if the modular drive can be upgraded to a BD drive.

I'm really interested in this laptop myself. It seems like the only reasonably
priced, <14 inch, decent battery/performer, <3.5 lbs. The lenovo t420s
has a better processor and battery for editing video though. It's bigger
but not much heavier or more expensive.

I was ready to buy an i7 quad core laptop but can't find anything that
weighs less than 6lbs. Sony is just too expensive. Sacrificing rendering
time or just waiting to render the video when I get someplace with an
outlet might be better than carrying around a heavy expensive machine.

Keyboard flex seems like a minor issue. I could probably stick some guitar
picks under the keyboard if it bothered me too much.

Newegg has nice prices but I'd have to pay sales tax. Any other good
vendors out there? B&H and Amazon no/tax are still higher than Newegg.

I'm currently using a pair of P8010s, one with a second hard drive (2x 1TB). They still work great, but I could really use a faster CPU, USB 3.0 ports and Expresscard slot, so I am very interested in the P771. The specs of he P771 look good, but I don't want to give up the 2nd hard drive. Has anyone been able to use two standard (9.5mm) hard drives in the P771, either via the bay or permanent modification? Thanks.

I have a P770, not P771, so this may not work.

I ordered a kit from the far east that replaced the optical drive with a second hard drive. Works well, but a first class pain to get installed because of the short internal cables for keyboard and trackpad.

I just purchased this Lifebook from NewEgg. They have the cheapest price. It's a very solid feeling notebook. I'm coming from a Vaio TZ. The only thing that I upset about is the hard drive. It's only 160gb which is on but what really makes me mad is that under HDD properties it read as a WDC HDD which is western digital. They're crap. I was expecting either a Toshiba HDD or a Fujitsu or even the illusive Hitachi. I'll be pulling the WDC crap HDD and put in a Samsung SSD
