That's a nice little deal. My review of the S6231 has just been published. Anyone still on the fence? Read my review and then jump on this deal.

i acually would perfer getting a base model expect with a dvd burner.

i personally dont like any of the HDD that fujitsu offer. and i want to install some corsair ram, not some unknown ram.

if i could upgrade the optical drive to a NEC one then i would really be happy, but the front is different=(

Seems to me like that 'one day sale' is a phony. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=34-110-127&depa=0 Check it out. It is indeed still a go-getter price! Yesterday's One day sale has a $160 instant rebate, today is $150 instant rebate. There is still time guys!

Good eye mizzgirl. And notice that the price decrease has no end date [:0]

Like I said before, there was no pressure/rush on this because there's always another deal coming [8D]

i think this is a better deal for $1314 including shipping and tax
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=34-110-134&depa=0

It only comes with 256 ram, but you have a slot free and you can use the money you save toward new ram.

With the other one, you have to take out one of the ram to install new ram.

Yes, something to consider, but the 512mb costs $150, that's uneccessary as you can do just about everything with simply a (2)256mb for now, maybe when prices drop, that 512mb would be worth purchasing and you can probably get at least $20 from selling the old 256mb. Just a thought

Random: I was referring to the Fujitsu brand, on Portable One is $150 for a 512mb.

Skiflyer: I don't believe it's any diff, shouldn't be anyway.

skiflyer: check the model number, it is the same. Newegg don't modify the notebooks or anything like that, they are the standard package as is from fujitsu.

mizzgirl: there is no fujitsu brand name RAM. I am guessing that fujitsu like most manufacturers use modules with MT chips (micron), so the equivalent to that that is available to the consumer is crucial, which still doesn't cost $150. Most of the upgrades at P1 cost more than the "do it your self" equivalent, but for those who don't want to mess with their notebook themselves they get an excellent service for a minor price. Also an example is the hitachi 7k HDD, costs way more at P1 than just getting the HDD from newegg and installing it yourself, plus in that case you get to keep the old HDD and probably use it as external portable storage!!!

    I don't know [:I] I just checked it out at P1:

    http://www.laptopsinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=FS

Hey, I also have another question:

If i were to code A LOT and be on the S6231 - 13.3 screen, would that hurt my eyes? Are the words too small in that screen. Since I'll be on the lappy for the majority of the time I'm a wake, every single day. Would do you think? I haven't seen this model physically - Frys at Renton, WA are all sold out! Thank you.

I don't think it's a good machine fore coding, especially without the dedicated home and end keys. You really might think about the IBM T series, it's a better programmer's notebook.

I'll agree that it's a poor choice for development for another reason: the 1024x768 resolution is just too small for real-world programming & development tools. It's ten years behind in that regard. That's not to say that this res isn't okay for the majority of users though.

Where else do you think I can physically look at a S6231 or any of the S series (since they are the same design anyway). The only place I know of is Fry's in Renton, WA, but they don't have them in stock, and probably not until the Alviso are out. Any ideas? I really want to take a look at it. I've been wanting a Fujitsu forever...can't get myself to switch now... [ :)]. I'm in Seattle, WA thanks!

    Just an FYI...

Looks like the S6231 (1.6 GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD, CDRW) just got a $40 markdown.
