Personally I don't mind paying a couple extra 100 bucks for the better build better screen and most importantly better keyboards. I have yet to find a better keyboard than the one on the N6000 series. (considering IBM have no DTRs with full keyboards :))

You pay for what you get.

i don't think any screen can compare to a Fujitsu's in my experience.

I have to second mach zero's analysis of the screen. I received my 6410 yesterday and I have to say, without a doubt, this is the best looking screen I have ever seen, bar none.

I was always in awe of the Sony screens, that is until I saw this one. Bright, clear and no dead pixels.

As for the build, I was a little taken back by the feel of the plastic, but since this is a DTR for me, it really doesn't matter.

Since UPS delivered it extremely late last night, I really haven't had a chance to test it out. But so far what I have seen, this machine is quick.

cool! keep us posted or maybe write a review :D ! i'm sad :( to hear that you confirmed the case build issue. i wonder what's up with that? bad move if Fujitsu is looking to save some $$$ --- at the cost of their rep. mine's a DTR as well, but i did have high expectations all around. i'll see when i get mine... i don't want to return it because of a chintzy case build. i will move the thing around a bit at the house. when you say you were a little taken aback, just how far 'aback' do you mean? on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being no big deal and 10 being YIKES, THAT'S CHEAP!

Maybe like a "2". I'm not saying that its "cheap" but if this thing were to drop or get bumped really hard, there could be an issue. But this is my opinion and may not reflect what you may experience. Like I said, this is a DTR and as such will not be moved that much. Anyways, I'm fairly anal about things and trust me it doesn't bother me all that much. To me its no deal breaker, I will be keeping it.

However, on a brighter note, I was impressed with the lid. The hinges seem quite sturdy and has a good feel about it. I did not notice any flexing either.

I forgot to mention the keyboard. Definately on of the best that I have tried in a while. Good response, with a nice feel about it. Much better than the ones that have that "mushy" and "short travel" feel to them.

*whew* --- thanks. i trust your opinion and i can relate to being anal about computer gear and quality ;) . i mean, that's why we spend so much time in these forums right? otherwise we'd be obliviously happy buying off-the-shelf at best buy  ! great news about the keyboard, hinges, lid and screen :p --- those ARE extremely important quality factors.

The N6410 is a very fine machine but I am concerned about the future. Any thoughts about the 32-bit duo core being a rather temporary stop in the product line. How long until a 64-bit duo core laptop at Fuji comes out whether it be AMD or INTEL? Any one have any insight as to Fujitsu's historic pace of upgrading their line-up?

HP surprised a few folks with their DV8000t and it's Intel duo core, any chance Fujitsu doing the opposite? If Fujitsu markets a 64-bit chip, duo or not, I would buy.

Fujitsu will probably market a 64 bit chip for the N-Series when it actually is useful to the average buyer, having a 64bit processor right now on you laptop means nothing unless you have the operating system and the software to back it up. and that won't be the case for a few years.

word. 64-bit doesn't mean much to me and won't be a factor for at least a couple of years if not more. it's not just a question of processor. it's the software market penetration, the mobo/chipset architecture (addressable RAM), the related hardware drivers, other system 'bottlenecks' improved/resolved, etc. so, i'm very happy with my decision with core duo over a current 64-bit processor as i'm a heavy multi-tasker. as for the future, well the napa boards/945 chipset just might be upgradable --- but i'm still inclined towards an entirely new machine for when 64-bit is much closer to mainstream. new every two (or three)!

Well finally received my N6410. This is one amazing computer. From the screen to the speed, I'm impressed.

The screen is bright, clear and no dead pixels. I was always in awe of the Sony screens on their notebooks; this one puts those to shame. No flex in the screen and no ripple either. The hinges are strong and stiff.

The speed of this computer is what has impressed me the most. Boot times are down right quick. After hooking up my iPod, I started the download process to the iPod and I couldn't believe the speed at which the songs loaded. I have tried some multi-tasking and there have been no slowdowns. The computer runs quite cool with no noticeable warm spots.

The application panel is quite interesting (though part of panel does not work with MCE). Once set up though, the computer can scan your e-mail account and notify you of when new mail is received. You can dedicate up to four different programs, however two of those are already taken by the internet and e-mail programs.
