No, the X1400 is going to be pretty middling, but not aweful. So it will work well for an entertainment rig that can handle gaming, just not Doom 3 with all features turned up. The display is absolutely amazing though.

Hey qwester, my N5010 is older still! I wonder who's using the oldest laptop on the forum?

I think the X1400 will get around 2000 on 3dmark05 so not a bad jump from the X600, (my X600 gets 1660 3dmark05).

i really really like the new design, i'm very interested in how the controls next to the power button work, that looks very interesting.

It is basically sticking to the N-series style, which is just like Brian said, a good overall media center, not an all out gaming machine, but still performs well.

And by the looks of it the 1.66ghz core duo performs as well as a 1.86ghz P-M. or maybe better, can't wait to find out ^_^

5 USB ports 4 of which are on the rear ... that's pretty cool.

I have 4 only 2 of which are on the rear, and those are the only ones I use. Side USBs are not too usefull for a DTR.

That's a good move by Fujitsu

But I guess at some point they should consider making the N6000 more gamer friendly, it sure can take it. Cooling won't be a problem. After all with an almost identical design, the N6010 can keep a P4 running at 46-48C (although I have managed to crash it a few times when I was running CPU intensive programs :()

yeah i think they did an excellent job with the layout of the ports, and again it looks very nice, nice style

i just wish they would allow you to choose a processor, give an even better GPU option, and Possibly make a WSXGA+ Crystal View Screen.

i just saw that the N3530 is also available now, it has the X1400 64mb. hmm

The price for N3530 seems pretty good with its components. Only thing I hate about this laptop is that the laptop is around 7.9LB. That's crazy. Do you guys know where fujitsu laptop is being made? China?

I think mine is close to what Qwester has or maybe even worse than his. Mine is the strip down version of N6010, no DVD burner or TV tuner. And it's a refurb :(

Bought in March 2005. Well, the N6010 can still serve me well..... still can play Need for Speed Most Wanted, run Visual Studio.NET, edit with Photoshop.

Mine still has 512MB RAM. Too stingy to upgrade :D

I wonder how many people here ditch their notebook every time the new one is out.

Same here, no tuner or burner.
No use for a tuner, and I prefer an external burner, a desktop one in an enclosure, costs around the same and performs a 100x better. And upgradable, for example I just gave up my old burner NEC3520 and getting a new one to support DVD-RAM, which is a feature yet to make its way to any laptop :D

But 1GB is a necessety, especially for ANY gaming, and man that visual studio is a resource hog! (not that matlab is better). I was installing VS.net 2005 last night, and I was pulling my hair. Installing from external HDD, to internal 7200RPM took some 30 minutes ... WINDOWS DOESN'T TAKE THAT LONG! Oh ya and uninstalling it today took longer  (I just needed it to do a small little task that took less time than install/uninstall)

And BTW I am getting a new laptop next month. Not a DTR and not a Fujitsu :p ... This is the last DTR I will get, at least for the next couple of years.

For now the asus z63a is rank one ... but I am thinking of getting the portable one version (P1 EX).
P1 seems to have the best deal, and well I just love their service!

I need something that is powerful, usable (keyboard) and not 11lb :D

I missed the amazing T43 offers of nov and dec, I made up my mind too late, and there was no way they could deliver before I went on vacation ... so I had to pass it, and now their value vs. performance doesn't look as sweet.

Just noticed, it is one of you top picks. So I must be onto something :p

hmm what are you going to do with your Fujitsu, leave it at home and be your gaming rig for home use and the Asus for travel?

i'm in a similar situation although have till august to decide :p so far Asus Z63a seems preferable over that Z62f..and when the other resellers take the z63a off their line up..i'm pretty sure P1 will still have it :D at the same time, the MSI 1022 is about the same price and sports a gpu...but the battery life isn't too pleasing :( from their line up..they will release a dual core turion variant soon

I don't game much if at all. But yes I am converting it to a full time desktop. I still prefer a full keyboard and the larger screen when I can have them.

I wasn't looking to get a Duo anyway, I wanted to get the last of the PMs (or even a Turion). Not that the news about the Z62f (in the asus forums) didn't make me feel better about my decision.

I am pretty sure P1 will have them for a while, I don't think they introduced the EX that long ago anyway. At the moment I am quite busy and a new laptop will be an excuse to waste time, so I am gonna wait a few weeks to get it, and maybe by then the prices will drop some more once the duo hit the market.

But the EX seems to have a different screen from the Z63a!?! I hope it's usual P1 quality :) And I am trying to stay away from a dedicated gfx (less heat, more juice to go). So this is just perfect, I just wish it was slightly lighter! 4.5lb would have been excellent. I guess I will use the weight saver.

Look at us, we have drifted soo far of Fujitsu in its own forum. Back to Fujitsu ... they rock :fujitsu: :p

Unlike in US, RAM is not so cheap in Canada (so does everything else for that matter).
Yes, VS.Net chew on resource. But I certainly don't mind the long wait since I consider that to be a reason to take a short break :D
Uninstalling VS is a *****. To add insult to injury, it left so many garbage in WinXP. Installing Visual Studio is like losing your virginity.... there ain't no way to go back :D

Congrats on your next notebook. As for me, I just purchased a 2 year extended warranty for N6010. It's gonna be a while for me to buy a new notebook.

Did I mention that I still use a Dell desktop purchased in 1998? ;)

I am so upset, I bought one customized n6410 from shopfujitsu.com, when I set up the config the estimated ship date was 02/20, when I paid they put the estimated date for 03/15, because it is out of stock

"Thank you for shopping at Fujitsu Computer Systems Online Store. We appreciate your business. Please retain the following order confirmation information for your records. We currently estimate that the items in this order will ship by approximately the availability of out of stock items. "

    My config was:

    LIFEBOOK N6410,INTEL DUO T2300,
    17 CRYSTAL VIEW WXGA+,MODEM,GIGABIT LAN,INTEL WLAN(ABG),TV TUNER,XP MCE,1 YEAR,DL DVD WRITER,1GB,+1GB,200GB (5400RPM) HDD (100GBX2),MCE REMOTE,USB FDD (AH00N1EAAC001540)
    $50 discount

I did not know this portableone website, they buy from fujitsu? Other thing make me more angry is because I paid sales taxes to FL, if I bought from portableone I will pay? And about the shipping delay?

    Thanks, Helio.

Portable One is an authorized reseller. You get the same service from them as you would from Fujitsu. They are authorized to upgrade and repair Fujitsu machines.

That said, I doubt they will have the N6410 either, because they get their units thru Fujitsu. And the delays are expected, after all you are talking about a machine that was made available only days ago, AND it is using the new intel platform which is barely starting to make its way on the market.

No you wouldn't pay taxes at P1, they only charge taxes for CA customers. I would advise you to buy thru them. They provide top notch service (IMO the best in the business), you pay no taxes, and you get a free upgrade (which in most cases you can give up for a price reduction). Oh and add to that they check up the notebook (if you want) for any defects, including dead pixels, something I doubt anyone else offers.

So if you can cancel your order, go ahead and do it. And then call P1 and see their estimate on shipping times ... Note: they won't be slower or faster than Fujistu. They usually ship out within a day or 2 from getting their products.

Hope you enjoy your Fujitsu once you get it.

    I second P1.

I bought an E series laptop from them. It took a while to get sent because Fujitsu of Japan didn't build it yet..so it was an agonizing wait. No taxes, no dead pixels (told htem to do a screen check).. and later when I wasn't too satisfied with the model, they took it back free of hassle (although i dont think they were too happy :p).

When the time comes when I need a laptop again, P1 will def be on the top of my list. Like fellow olympic fan above, I'm considerng the P1 EX, along with the soon to be released MSI 1052.

When I placed my order through P1, I was told that I could expect my computer to ship by 3/3. I knew up front that is was going to take longer.

I was willing to wait, anything to save $150+ in taxes. So with the $150+ in taxes I saved, I used that money to upgrade even further.

I'm impressed by all the recommendations for PortableOne and would like to get in touch with them to ask some questions about the new Fujitsus.

I recall that people have at various times mentioned that some of the folks at PortableOne post here, and are particularly helpful. Can someone please recommend to me whom I should email with questions plus his/her email address and/or phone number?

    Thanks.

Ivan does answer the [email protected] acct/address. At least he did in my experience *every time* --- and super-fast response times too I might add. That sold me, so I just bought the N6410 through P1 http://www.portableone.com :D ! My config came to $1919.00 and I'll newgg/zipzoomfly 2GB RAM when the lappy's a couple of days out --- hoping for a price drop by then ;) ! The only real contender for me was the MSI MS-1036 from http://www.rawpowerpc.com, but the legendary Fujitsu build quality and that beautiful display won me over. It was a tough decision. Wish the N6410 still had a PCMCIA card slot though. No broadband wireless ExpressCard support in the market yet...

That's strange -- are you sure it doesn't have a PCMCIA slot? The configs listed on the PortableOne and Fujitsu sites include both a PC Card slot (i.e, PCMCIA) and an Express Card slot.
How did you configure it, if I may ask out of curiosity? Also, is there compatible RAM out already? Do you know which company makes the Fujitsu RAM (I had a bad experience when I put Crucial RAM, even though it was fully compatible by spec, in a ThinkPad; apparently, it's only a good idea to use Kingston for IBM's so I'm hesitant to use a different OEM for RAM)?
And when did Ivan say you could expect delivery? Thanks.
I just need to get up the strength to type all my questions for Ivan into an email....

you're right, i stand corrected. i just double-checked and there is one type I/II slot (PCMCIA) :) ! that's good! good eye! Ivan quoted the 'disclaimer' 5 to 10 days, but i'm expecting longer. I'll ping him for an update in about a week. you can see my 'purchase decision' thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=41271 - my config was with the minimum RAM as i'll newegg/zipzoomfly that. the DDR2 667MHz isn't so rare that you can't save $100+ going elsewhere --- and even more if you go 533MHz. i went with the 100GB 7200 RPM drive option, passed on the TV Tuner and Windows MCE (i'll get something aftermarket and USB), took XP Pro, took the Dual Layer DVD burner and the 3 year warranty. ($1919.00) P1 is an authorized Fujitsu repair facility with a stellar reputation --- that was a big reason for my choice too. i'm still agonizing over my choice, but i know it's the right one. build quality, reputation and service are everything to me. good idea to further spec the Fujitsu RAM --- I'll ask Ivan that too. i'm waiting until the laptop is a couple/few days out to source/buy (price drop?), so I've got time to research...

Actually I opted to go with the OEM RAM. Like Tammy, I have had trouble with aftermarket RAM. By going with the OEM RAM, you can reast assured that Fujitsu has tested and has verified that the RAM is compatible.

hmmmmmmm. good points. i'll still go with aftermarket after i do some more research - unless i'm convinced otherwise. i'll see who/what they use. i've had RAM issues in the past too, but to me, the savings are worth some due diligence and a roll of the dice ;) ! BTW here is what Ivan said about delivery:

"Current ship dates on new CTO's are leaving via 2 day service around 3/7 as of today, depending on configuration, So the standard 5 to 10 business day to receive it will be in effect."

so i am expecting at least a two week wait. :(

make sure to let us all know your initial thoughts once you get yours!!!

http://www.archmemory.com lists the DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 200 pin SO-DIMM (1GB) for $124.99 - the site also claims they only carry Infineon, Micron and Samsung RAM. I asked Ivan at P1 what RAM is used by Fujitsu and he said those three. I'll call to speak with someone at Archmemory just to verify the site's claim. If it's true, I'll go with them. I did find cheaper: http://www.4allmemory.com listed the N6410 (already) in the system matching utility and came up with 1GB for $114.99 guaranteed compatibility and free shipping (couldn't verify the manufacturer). Also found LEI memory at http://www.bisoncomponents.com for $114.85. I'll stick to Ivan's guidance on the Infineon, Micron and Samsung though for best chances at compatibility. I'll let you guys know. I'll be waiting until about March 9 to order (next payday :D !). The laptop should be arriving around then. I'm expecting it on the 10th or the 11th :) !

i wouldn't worry that much about compatability, right now i have a 1GB stick of Corsair memory installed with my OEM 256mb stick that came with my notebook (i ordered with 2x256mb) now i have 1.25gb and everything works beautifully, no problems what so ever, i think i will get another stick of corsair and up it to 2gb though, this is after waiting a very long time to compile a HL2 map for a drawing and sculpture project at my school (Kansas City Art Institute),

you can get 1gb Corsair 667mhz at newegg.com for $124 right now and this price will drop quite fast actually, i bought 1gb of 533 corsair for $93 awhile back and now the same thing is priced at $70 or so.

here is a link of what newegg.com has for 667mhz ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...R5=2010170381+1052408745&ATTR6=&ATTR7=&ATTR8=

I'm using 2x1GB of Kingston Value RAM in my N5010. It matched all Micron specs and used slightly less power.

My computer shipped from Fujitsu yesterday. Now its in the hands of UPS.

For those of you don't know, I had ordered a N6220 from CDW just before the N6410 was released. Well, someone one at UPS thought they needed the computer more than I did and stole it while in transit to me. So at this point I''m a little leary of UPS. My expected deleivery date is 3/6/06.

You can go ti Fujitsu's website and download the manual for the N6410. Follow this link http://support.fujitsupc.com/CS/Portal/supportsearch.do. Look on page 27 of the manual and if gives complete explanation of the Media Player Panel.

*EDIT" My 6410 will arrive tomorrow, 3/2/06......

I can't speak from personal knowledge, but from everything I've both heard and read, Fujitsu is supposed to have much better build quality, reliability and screen quality than HP.

Anyone ahould feel free to correct me if I'm wrong before I myself order. But Fujitsu has always been more expensive than HP for these reasons, and justifiably so if they're true.

i did a quick config similar to my config of the N641 up on http://www.hpshopping.com and came in at $2013.98 (free shipping) before a $50 mail-in rebate. so: $1963.98 - if i hadn't bought mine last week, i might opt for the HP (i was watching them...) simply to save a few bucks. however, now that I've committed, i'll reserve any judgement until i actually get mine in my hands. you can drive yourself crazy (and trust me, i am the type that does :D ) second-guessing yourself after you make a purchase. especially in the quickly and ever-changing computer hardware/software world. this is the price of innovation. always trying to stay on the cutting-edge is exhausting (and expensive)! either machine is great and i'd be happy with either one... i'm sure you'll love the Fujitsu. so what that you paid more money. at the time, you made the best decision going.

I did not know that HP will release the z8000t, I thought as long as they have the turion64 processor, they will not release the core duo from intel, as long as both have 64bits. But I also say today that there was a thread at this forum about z8000t since the beggining of february :(

Mine n6410 was delivered at Miami, now my friend will send me to Brazil, I live here. I had on zd7000 from HP, and had one inspiron 9300, sold to buy the n6410. If I not like that I will try to sell and buy the HP

The z8000t have everything that I need, 2ghz core duo (n6410 not), bluetooth (n6410 not), wifi, numeric keyboard, lightscrabe (n6410 not), tv tuner, is all black (help to not see the dirty and In my opinion is most beautiful than n6410)
In other hand, the n6410 has built-in tv tuner (I prefer) and the memory has better speed 667mhz, hp z8000t is 533mhz

As my last friend said, I thought if both was released at same time, I will go with z8000t

N6410 is much better looking than HP in my opinion.

and the screen should make up for the price completely

U saw that dv8000t has an option of ULTRA Brightview? This one is not the same thing of the n6410 screen?

Brightwiew is indeed HP's version of the glossy screen. All the "Ultra" tag means is that it has two lamps instead of one so it is a little brighter than their regular 17 inch Brightview screen, but the screen itself is still physically the same.

Having said that, though, from my observation HP's screens don't hold a candle to Fujitsu's CrystalView screens.
