    Hi all!

i am actually asking this question for my friend, he computer is having lots of trouble, it random restarts alot and blue screen of death etc.
so i decided to help her do a clean install.
booted up the laptop and went to bios to tell it to boot cd first, after exiting bios, the laptop just loaded windows...normally there should be a message asking if i want to load from cd, but there isnt such choice, the laptop just loads into xp. what is the problem?

i also tried another windows xp cd and it still didnt work

    the laptop is s6240

Did you definitely hit 'Save and Exit'? Are you using recovery disks or a windows XP disk? Have you tried loading the recovery disks in another computer (not through boot, just in windows to check if they're accessible)?

Your welcome. I'll just explain a bit further (as I'll be logging off soon). Recovery disks are quite often dodgy. If this is the case, contact the system manufacturer and they should be able to provide you with new ones. Check for dirt or scratches first, they really dont appreciate them! If you are using an XP cd, try booting it in another computer then return to your friend's system. If it wont start then it could be the BIOS (try updating it if the computer has a floppy drive) or it may be the DVD drive (use an external if you have one). If possible (depending on how regular the BSOD is) try opening the cd from windows on that computer to check if the drive is working.

Just out of interest, whats the error message with the BSOD? Wouldn't be IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL by any chance? Had that on my desktop.

    Good Luck!
