I got a 6520 in the mail yesterday and for the whole day the fan was on, even at idle. I tried a lot of things, but none worked (undervolting, downgrading to XP, changing BIOS to silent fan). Today, the fan has shut off temporarily. I'm not sure if it's because I'm on battery, which is unlikely since I was on battery for most of yesterday too.

Any suggestions? The fan seems to turn on at the slightest activity, and continue indefinitely. Also, I get a high pitched whine (CPU?) that is pretty annoying. I don't want to carry around a cooler, so all I can think of now is propping the notebook up, or looking into throttling or getting more RAM or returning it.

I have the S6510, and the fan seems to run most of the time for me. It is definitely quieter and cooler when the power plan is set to Power Saver. I have never noticed a whine on mine. You may want to call customer service, but I don't know if they'll do anything for you because it probably is the CPU.
