Hey guys, I've been stalking this forum for a few days, trying to see what people are saying about Fujitsu these days as I'm in the market for one. Well, actually it arrived today. I was a little apprehensive about getting the s7110 since my business partner has/had the s7010 and as soon as the warranty expired, the motherboard gave up the ghost. I already have a laptop but it's a 17" toshiba and though great for graphics while I'm on the road (part time photographer), it's wayyyy too heavy and big to carry around and the battery life sucks. I looked at many models and the s7110 comes as close to what I wanted as can be. I also liked some Asus models but since I can't see them on display anywhere, I wouldn't take the chance to just buy something I haven't even held in my hands.
So despite the fact that my friends s7010 died after just one year, I thought well, cr@p happens and I ordered the s7110. The only 2 things missing are the built in webcam and black top panel/palm rests. On my toshiba they are silver as well and after a couple of years have two large dark marks from my palms. The s7010 is black :(

Overall I'm happy with this laptop. T5600 with 1G ram. However, I've noticed that the screen isn't placed 100% straight in the frame, meaning that the top left corner has a bit more space away from the frame than the bottom left corner and the same for the right side as well as top and bottom. Seems like the screen would have to be rotated tiny bit to the right. Not a BIG deal, but I expect utter perfection, especially on a lappy with Fujitsu's reputation and one that's built in Japan. On my Toshiba, the screen is perfectly aligned.

Aside from that, everything else is very impressive. Solid build and gorgeous finish. The laptop is relatively light and thin which were my 2 main criteria as well as long battery life.

I do have one question. Is there any way of disabling the Fujitsu Update? It sits in my tasktray. I'm very anal on resource usage, and though I understand that this particular program isn't all that resource intensive, none the less, it's just another icon in my task tray. Do I have to uninstall it or is there another option to get it out of there?

    Any/all help is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Marek

Perhaps there is a way to right-click it and disable it. Uninstalling it would probably work too.

Thanks ZAZ, I thought of doing that myself but then I don't want to get rid of it all together. Just disabling it would be nice. But if I can't disable it then I guess I'll just have to live with it. No biggie. Like I've said previously, just one more icon in the tasktray that bugs me ;)

    Regards.

Just wondering - did you report the screen problem to Fujitsu?

There is some way to remove it, the s7110 that I use for work does not have the update in the taskbar but it is in the programs menu.

Lela, the the screen is off center by design -- the left bezel is abaout 125% of the size of the right. Hardly noticeable, but it's there.

Btw, do you notice that the keyboard has a problem with the SHIFT keys?

Fujitsu says that this is characteristic of the edges of the SHIFT keys of the s7110 and the old e8210, but claim that it's not a defect -- do you s7110 owners notice this?

My old e8210 only has this problem with the inner edges of the SHIFT keys (ie, the right edge of the left SHIFT key; and the left edge of the right SHIFT key) don't work.

Thks re the explanation on the screen, Nikolai. :)
