I have a S7010 and everytime the system resources jump up to 50%+ if only for a few seconds the fan cranks up for a few seconds. This happens everytime you check email or create a pdf which gets irritating. I am convinced it not the tempature that triggers it but the fact that the speed cranks to max.

I am running Notebook Hardware Control 1.9b3 and have it set to enable custom dynamic switching. I have the max multiplier set to 14X, one notch below the max of 17x. In this way the system can never acheive the full rated speed of 1700mhz but only 1400mhz.

The result is no more fan switching on every time the systems wants to max out for a second. If the cpu usage does remain high for an extended period the fan eventually comes on probablly due to the tempature.

I also have the voltages turned way down with no stability problems at all. Not sure how much this helps battery life. You can find Notebook Hardware Control at
