I've got one on the shelf that I bought in 2001. It still works fine but is somewhat slow, so it only comes out for special occasions.

thing is fujitsu may not be as main stream as let's say Hp, Toshiba, or Gateway, but I know people in Johns scenario where they have 8 or 9 yr old Fujitsu's that still work fine.
This is why I really only will buy Fujitsu products...(even though I still like some Toshiba models).

I just replaced S7020 after 3 years. New unit is S6520 with Montevina chipset. Definitely runs cooler and longer.

    Hi all
I am just planning to buy a new Fujitsu laptop, after reading u guys comment, seems Fujitsu is a good choice. (btw, my current Samsung X10 is wiv me for 5 years already!)
I got few choices, please give me some comment which one I should pick:

    1.)P8010BU
    2.)E8420U
    3.)S6520U
    4.)A6210BU

And should I choose those using Centrino 2 instead of Core2 Duo?

    Thx so much!!

Centrino 2 is a platform that uses a second-generation Intel Core2 Duo CPU ( Montevina platform), and also an Intel GM45 Express chipset, Intel's WiFi Link 5000 for Wireless-N and Intel 82567LM Gigabit LAN: Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology.

A Core 2 Duo is a CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processors. There are today two C2D generations for mobile processors: Merom (65mm) and Penryn (45mm). The Merom is used in the Centrino Duo platform (now called simply "Centrino"), while the Penryn in the Centrino 2 one. However, not all laptops equipped with a Core 2 Duo CPU are Centrino / Centrino Duo / Centrino 2, because for a laptop to be called Centrino it also needs to satisfy the other prerequisites (Intel chipset, Intel WiFi, Intel LAN) also.

I've had my S6210 for five years. Only issue happened recently, main battery stopped working (not a big issue for me, and it was used extensively for 3 years). Fujitsu's laptops are definitely one of the best options.

I recently upgraded to 2 GB of RAM and plan to use this for one or two more years, to a total of 6 or 7 years! Cross your fingers for me :)

I'm at 4.5 years on an N5010. Works great. Screen is as beautiful as the day I got it. Oh, and it spent the first 3.5 years going to and from school everyday, running at least 10hrs at a stretch and running constantly all weekend with cpu pegged doing modeling.

My A6120 is only 2 months old. After I fixed the overheating problem with under-volting (found here, NBR) I expect it to last a long time. Runs like a rabbit with Vista stripped off and XP loaded back on. Also removed 1GB memory down to 2GB to increase speed more. So far, so good.......

I have a 6240 model from about 4-5 years ago. The power jack design failure meant that i had intermitten connections and had to wiggle the jack to get power. Now it only works if its balancing precariously on an eraser jammed under the jack. The battery got trashed by the constant on-and-off effect, so it lasts a good 3 minutes before dying. I'm missing the x key and the b key, the screen is yellow-washed, and the harddrive really sounds like its just about to die as it makes enough noise to raise the dead.

But other than that, it still works.

    Hi Scott,

    A Lifebook A6120 and "Overheating" ... I thought these things were bullet-proof.

Scott, just out of curiosity ...

Q1: What are your Specs on it? CPU, ...

Q2: How did you check and find out that you had "Overheating" problem?

Q3: Where did you find your XP drivers at ? Fujitsu Support or !?!?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

    Hey gonwk,
I used a bunch of utilities to cross check temps: Everest, RMClock, Speedfan CachemanXP and others. Be careful to read the CPU sensors, not the TMP ones. They ALL agreed: fan on at 63C and fan off at 59C. No problem until you start using the computer for real applications instead of staring at the pretty desktop icons. Orthos ran the temp up to 85C which is the Intel Max Operating temp. (redline), 100C is Emergency Shutdown. Undervolting got my Orthos temp. down to 67C which I can live with since no application of mine uses 100% CPU continuously. So, it's now 59 to 63 under real life conditions.
All that because of a cheap, underpowered Fujitsu fan

The XP drivers are at the Fujitsu site. Go to download section and plug in the model (A6120). Mine has a T5750 CPU, 2GHz, 1280X800, X3100 Intel Graphics. Check their website for complete specs. Hope I got all you wanted.

    Hi Scott,

THANKS ... Wow that was a bit of detective work on your part. I really always thought Fujitsu used NOTHING but the Best. And made in Japan ... no made in CN or TW ...

    Thanks again,

    G! :)

It makes you wonder when their factory store undercuts their own online distributors by a third and then, to top it off, the factory store is flogging off the same model on Ebay and getting 2/3rds the factory store price. Who in the hell would want be a Fujitsu distributor when they have a factory store that undercuts you AND itself ??? That fishy smell is definitely NOT Sushi....
In Canada, they're giving away free 3 year warranties for the A6120. I guess it must be cheaper to replace them than to hire a tech support person who will respond to an email.

Looks to be Japanese. If you get an A6120, buy it at Ebay sold by the Fujitsu Co Store. Probably land one for $600 at auction with warranty. After I stripped off Vista, put a fresh XP install on and undervolted to .9625 volts, it runs like a rabbit, stays cool and has lots of hardware extras. I like my new notebook but don't care much for the Fujitsu Co. Their tech service is less than useless. I got all my support right here.
