My s7110 stopped working when detached from mains although the battery was full,so I purchased a brand new battery; I fully charged it.... but as soon as I detach the charger, the laptop shuts off!
The status icon shows the battery as charging, with two bars, nothing is flashing.
Can this be fixed or is the laptop now just... a desktop? :-(

I see it supports bay battery: would it work without the first battery if I install the secondary battery?

I had a similar issue. I believe the issue could have actually been the mains charger, but parents sent it to a laptop repairer for bday.
Seemed to have sorted it out but never found out what the issue was,
Could be though that 2nd battery was corrupt and wasn't holding the charge, if its not the charger itself.
OR it could be that the contact on the battery are suspect, or somehow chosen to disable the battery and only except power via the socket, although no idea how you would set that up.
