    Hi everybody,

I'd like to share a story, which is in fact my laptop's awful history..

About 1 year and half ago I bought a brand new Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M3438G notebook (Pentium M 760, 1GB RAM, GeForce 6800Go - 256MB, 2 x HDD 100GB, 17"display....). Very nice model, good pricing at that time, so I decided to buy it as a desktop replacement, since I'm constantly travelling back and forth between my home and the town where I'm studying.
All went fine 'till 3 weeks after my warranty expired, when i got all of a sudden a blue screen in XP caused by "nv4cpl" and my laptop froze. When I restarted, the display showed odd vertical red, blue and green patterns. I googled this asap on another computer, and found several others with similar problems. The videocard died...
I went to the FujitsuSiemens service, and had to pay 300EUR for a bloddy new GeForce 6800Go. Thing is, a few days ago (new card came about a month ago) when I decided to play a 3D game, my new videocard decided it's time to die. And so she did...
I am appaled by this situation, I would rather throw the notebook out the window, but i still need it. The service couldn't offer me any clarification on what is wrong with my system. All they said was "we'll order a new videocard, must have been a production fault" (luckily i don't have to pay for the 2nd one, because it's still under warranty).

If someone has any advice, suggestions, I'd be very happy to read them. As a clue (I told service too) I noticed that before all of this started, my processor voltage was around 1,2V normal operation and 0,9V in Quiet Mode. After they replaced my card, It ran constantly at 0,99V, no matter what, but no performance changes or anything noticeable.

P.S. My laptop had a nice life, always clean, no fan blockage, no dust, no overheating in any way...

Well I do not really think is about the year 2008!!

I have the same problem ...now 4 days ago my notebook (same one amilo M 3438G) has halted and displayed the same paterns ...as i uninstalled the driver of Nvidia go 6800 it runs ok ...but where is my graphics accelerations ....Open GL specialy I can not use . I have spoked with FS service overnet
They can not say to me what happened.
I use my computer alot so I had remembered that it was pretty hot when it broke down. I think is all about heat. I shall go to the service and replace my videocard. and ...he he he ..I allready told them I shall need to by two videocards ....just in case.

Is not a fun story but as you did say before " I need this notebook...and realy it fullfill my demands"

Best wishes for the new year !

and let's not dramatize...my laptop is allready 3 years old
    It need some upgrade

    Hi,

i read a lot of bad graphic cards in the 3438 Notebook in a german forum. I think the graphic prozessor or card has a lifetime problem.

Hi! The issue that you (WE!!!!!!!!!!) have is very weird! Well... a few days ago I left my laptop on over night and when I woke the other morning the display was DEAD!!! I thought that was just a minor problem and I restarted it, but ...my God... some white stripes appeared when it booted, before that FSC logo and then on, continuing when Xp was booting...Before the Desktop appear the Display went off! I restarted it again but with the same result; I formatted it... the same... I tried to flash the graphic card BIOS... NADA... But now, when I'm writing this words my laptop is working on 640 by 480 with 4 bits color quality ...the only way that it works And in the window with the Adapter Type, in the Adapter Information it says < unavailable> Of course I tried to reinstall the Drivers.. nothing... I'm not so sure that it is the graphic card... I think more that it is a conflict between the motherboard and the GPU.. because.. last evening I saw a miracle .. the laptop worked about 8-9 hours... until this morning... when I was watching a movie than suddenly the display froze and guess what showed up when I restarted it... a display full of pairs of 4 white stripes... That's it.. I have this laptop for about 2 years.. but I think that the Fujitsu Siemens Company put something in those computers: you can use them for two years and after that you can throw them as garbage! And God... I will never pay 400 euros for a new graphic card... I rather buy another laptop with 800... Sorry for my English...
