    I just bought a S7010D from United States.(but i live in europe)
I turned the computer on and the first thing i notice is that the fan is extremely loud. Has anyone expreinced smt like that? Would you say that a loud fan is normal with this model?

I'm really dissappointed, i dont know what to do :((( do you suggest that i should take it to service in my home country?

    thanks

I haven't heard anything about that but then I've never seen this model in person. I was wondering if it was loud in comparision to anything in particular and if it was just loud at start up. Thanks for any info you can get.

Well i'm currently using a TOSHIBA Satellite 1400-103 Notebook and when the computer is on (no programs running whatsoever) the Fujitsu S7010D i just bought (i want to cry :((( )is way louder. My toshiba sits on my desk all day long and the sound coming from it does not disturb me, but with the Fujitsu i cannot consantrate on anything but its horrible noise...

    Read this thread:
    http://www.leog.net/fujp_forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5287

Basically you will get the fan going if you have the S7010D in “Home/Office Desk” setting and/or it's not properly aired.

I don't think it is because of the Home/Office Desk setting...But what do you mean when you say "not properly aired"?

    Thanks

Now I also notice that the right hand side of my fujitsu S7010D and the area about the touch pad is disturbingly hot. Would anyone say that this is typical?

I would love it if someone could give me a few hints on the fan and the hotness.

    Thanks,

    Oya

Not properly aired means that the vents are blocked. How much RAM do you have? Sometimes notebooks with high amounts of RAM can get hot near those compartments. It's generally nothing to worry about though.

    Oya,

This hotness _may_ be something worrying. Is it so hot that it is uncomfortable to keep your hand on it ? Is it constant ? How soon does the laptop heat up after you turn it on? Does the same happen if the laptop is not flat on the table but there is air flow underneath it ?

Having the fan switched on continuously and disregarding what you do (e.g. even if the laptop is left idle) _is_ something to worry about.

However, don't panic: I would try playing with the settings (e.g. choose "Laptop/Portable" setting, lower clock frequency, whatever's there) in order to reduce your current consumption (and thus power dissipation). Second, contact other owners of S7010D (the forums here and the ones at leog.net are a very good start) and compare behaviors, "hotness" issues and such.

Again, there's nothing _seriously_ to worry about. IIRC S7010D - like most modern laptops - have thermal protection. So there is only a relatively small chance that ou'll damage your hardware this way.

And one last question: You said you live in Europe but you bought the S7010D in US: Did you buy it personally and/or a friend that later shipped it to you or you bought it from a company that send it to you over here ?

I'm asking since I'm eying a model that is avail only in US and I also live in Europe.

Anyway, good luck w/ your issues.

Thanks a lot there... i'll look out for the stuff you have said tonight and see how it turns out.
And the other thing, i originally wanted to buy a Sony Vaio Z1 but then it was very expensive here in my home country and in US as well(3,199 $ +tax+shipment etc). Then while looking for notebooks i noticed the Fujitsu S7010D and thought that since they have similar configurations why not go with a cheap one. (probably i should have bought a Sony) Then my father was about to go on a business trip to FL, so i had him pick the notebook for me. I first asked for the model with 1GB ram but they wouldn't have it stock while my dad was in US, so right now i own a S7010D, 80GB, Superdrive, 512Ram, XPP

ps.We have had problems ordering with an international credit card, so we used a US credit card instead!!

    Hi everyone,
ý guess i found a solution to my problem. I found out tonight that my CPU usage was running around 100% . I restored to factory defaults using drive image, and now the fan doesnt seem to start up so often...
A little relieved i must say..But still the right hand side of the keyboard bothers me.

    Cheers,
    Oya

sounds like a worm at work.

what I notice is any time my 7010D jumps over 80% CPU usage the fan goes into high speed even if it is only for a second. My email program does this ever time it checks mail whihc is kinad annoying I wish it would wait for 1-2 seconds before cranking up the fan.

Generally the fan is not a problem. The keyboard is another story.

I have used 2 S7010Ds in the last 3 weeks both bought in the last 3 weeks. I test drove the wife's Boss' and noticed it got fairly warm on the right palm rest. My S7010D does not get as warm in that location. I did not notice any warmth until reading this message string and felt the palm rest looking for warmth.

On the first computer the fan only came on when starting up for a second or two. I did not exercise the hard drive much (std 40Gig) during the test drive. My machine has the 60 Gig 7200RPM hard drive. When I ran Norton anti-virus the fan came on and stayed on. The fan is very noisy when running, which seems only to be when the hard drive is being written or read from.
