I've been meaning to post this earlier, but got all caught up w/ the new laptop, my first. :D I received my N6210 last friday via USPS. It was late because it got caught up in some customs thing. I must say, I am not dissapointed one bit. For all those fujitsu owners who talk about how beautiful the screen is, they are not lying!! I was absolutely blown away by the screen  , I have never actually seen anything so clear. A week before I purchased the N6210, I happened to see the new Dell XPS2 in person, and I thought that one was amazing, but that Dell cannot compare to the N6210. I was afraid I would not like the black keyboard because I thought I would've preferred the pearl white, but the black on black is very stylish  . I havent really been able to test out the battery extensively except for once; it lasted about 2 hrs while I was playing GW. Another thing that struck me was how light this laptop was. Supposedly, the machine weighs 8lbs or so, but it really does feel like its only 5 lbs. The keyboard is perfect and im happy to say that i did not get a defective laptop. I havnt noticed any dead pixels so far. And the fans are virtually silent; the fans do run faster upon startup, but it is barely noticeable. The heat generated by the machine is tolerable, many times i dont even notice it until after I run it for a good 5+ hrs of heavy gaming. The heat can be felt under your left hand.

Btw, I forgot to mention my configuration: everything is standard off Portableone except I upgraded to the 60 GB 7200 RPM HD and the 512 MB (1X512) memory. I plan on adding another stick of 512 ram in here soon because it seems to slow down/freeze a bit when I switch between programs/games. I was just wondering how easy it is to add another stick of memory and how would i go by doing this? I dont much about the hardware of laptops.

Ill add more info if anything comes to mind. :fujitsu:

Glad you're happy so far! Adding RAM is easy, remove 1-2 screws and clip it in. It should help with things like that, I'm sure you'll feel a nice general performacne boost.

    congrats!

Yes, you do need more than 512MB for gaming. Windows uses too much resources and leaves too little for todays demanding games.

A question about the heat. Do you feel any heat any where else other than on the left side (next to the touchpad)? BTW that's where the HDD is located, and I guess you will notice less heat when you upgrade your RAMs because there will be less swapping.

As for upgrading the RAMs. Have a look on the bottom. there is a small window with 1/2 screw holding it, close to the fan vent. that's where the rams go. It is very simple to do!

Are you going to have time to post pictures? I would love to see some pictures :)

My N6010 usually doesn't have a big problem with heating, but sometimes if I use it too long, the left side will get mildy warm.

First off thank you, Qwester. :)

I really dont feel any heat at all when im just surfing the net or doing some simple programs like word processing, even if I've been running my laptop all day. The only time i can notice it being warm/hot is when i run games, and the only place i feel the heat generated is under my left palm along the left side of the keyboard and left of the touchpad. Other than that, the heat is virtually unnoticeable. Another plus is that I would think it would run hotter because it is so hot (high 90s right now) where i live and i do not use the AC or have any fans.

i would put some pictures up, but i currently do not have my digital camera with me, sorry. but as soon as i have the chance to get it back, ill be sure to post some. I will say this though; it looks a lot better in person than from the pictures you see online at P1.

Also, I was wondering which kind/brand of ram should i get? i checked out newegg last night and they had 8 results, and prices ranged from 49-100+ for the 512 (1x512) ram. Ive heard of Kingston and Corsair but i dont know how they compare to the other choices.

Thanks for the help, Qwester. It sounds easy enough to do myself, even I cant mess this up. If you guys have anymore questions just post it and ill be more than happy to respond.

corsair and kingston are the best. I got kingmax because the price was hard to resist, and they have been working fine for over 2 months now!

    Congrats on your new purchase!!!!

I have two questions for you:
1)Is the fan on continuously? I've read that owners of the N6010 had issues with the fan turning on and off sporadically.
2)Did you get the 12cell from P1 as default or did you order seperately. The reason I ask is because you mentioned the battery lasted 2+hours. The 8cell should only last 1hour.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. nope, the fans are off, i only hear the fans when im running big programs, or when windows loads. other than that i dont hear it at all. anyways, i barely notice them on when they do come on. my roommate has a dell and after hearing my fans, her fans are like 100x noisier.
    2. i got the defualt battery from P1. i just checked right now and i guess the defualt one is the 8 cell. when i ran it on battery alone it seemed to last longer than 1 hr and that was when i was playing games. so i imagine that if im not doing anything that really eats up the battery i think it can last longer.

i cant seem to find that piece of information anywhere. i looked on the packaging and on the laptop. you know where i can find that?

if you have any other questions, just post it and ill gladly reply.

    Yay!

I'm with tttttada, I'm hooked on this thing too. I already have my extra 512 of Kingston RAM to put in it.

By the way, SupaStah31, I installed a stick of RAM into a friend's Inspiron 6000 last night for the first time ever and it was cake. I had a harder time finding a screwdriver at her house that was small enough to open the casing up than actually installing the RAM :p

But yeah, I'm excited to hear as much about this thing as possible. After I get paid on Friday, I'll be ordering mine ASAP :-D

I officially jumped on the bandwagon today and ordered mine. I upgraded to 1 stick of 512MB (adding a second once I get it), 60GB 7200RPM HD, 12 cell battery and the DVD burner. Can't wait to get it :-D

I went back and forth for a long time on whether or not to get the TV tuner. I decided that I don't necessarily need it to be integrated and the ATI HD Wonder (or whatever it's called) is going to be very nice so I'll get that if I feel the need.

I don't know when mine is supposed to get here.

    But I'm excited :-D

what's the graphic card used in N6210? just wondering. the price for N6210 and N3510 is the same (based on the price at P1). i'm just wondering what's the diff beside the screens and design. ( i like N3510 design a lot ) :fujitsu:

    Hiyas,

Well, I got some pics of N6210, but the thing won't let me upload because of the file size limit. Wack... Brian, can I email them to you so you can post it? Compress them maybe, too. Here's the most exciting picture attached below I hope. Warning: It's not nearly as shiny in real life, but I just got the camera so I don't know how to do stuff with it yet.

Well, out of the 2 people at work who saw this machine when it was delviered, one is now thinking of getting it for himself. He thinks it's very stylish and loves the screen. I love the screen myself, my fav part. The other likes it a lot but he really has no use for a laptop. I think he's on a G3 desktop still, anyway. Both are adults. (Me, I'm 21.)

So, people think that this is a very attractive piece. I don't. I mean, it's not ugly. But it's no Toshiba Qosmio with super shiny black stuff around the keyboard. Speaking of, kb's a bit annoying, but perhaps that's because I'm used to desktop keyboards. Also, you really have to hit the numlock in order to turn it on. (Annoying since it doesn't remember if you like numlock on or off - but I think that's a Windows XP thing.) Even more annoying is the touchpad that you sometimes touch when you type. There's no button to turn it off, unlike with HP models. However, MOST of the time it's ok. What I do like about the touchpad is that you can tap it in order to click - i.e. you don't have to use the provided buttons to click if you don't feel like it.

The whole short time I used it, it's been sitting on the bed and, naturally, getting pretty hot, so I can't comment on the coolness. Fans are pretty much unnoticeable. (Ships from Japan.) Btw, it ships with an 8 cell battery by default, but if you want to, you can get a 12 cell for $30 more (at P1 anyway). Considering the small portion of the added weight compared to the rest of the brick, the battery upgrade is well worth it.

I think other details have been covered at length. Btw, installing RAM is a pain - you have to take off a much bigger piece than the special window. It's easy once you do, but trying to squish the bottom module in with tweezers just won't do. My favorite feature (so far anyway) is the MemoryStick slot, but I guess that's pretty standard nowadays with media laptops. Comes very handy if you gots a camera. Gets less handy when the forum won't let you upload the pics.. ahem.

So, I look at the unit and it makes me sad. $2000 for what? It works and stuff, but you're kind of bound to look at it - and when you spend so much money, you expect to like it. I guess my problem is unique. I don't like the laptop OVERALL not because of the features, which I'm happy with, but the case. Does anyone know where I can get it painted or something? Cause I'm not doing it myself and taking the risk of screwing up. I'm not asking for anything special, just something that's NOT a gloomy dark grey that blends in with the outside on a rainy day. (Not all grey is gloomy, btw. I think Averatec laptops have very stylish grey keyboards.)

Well, I sent an email to P1 asking the same q, do they know if it's possible to paint it - and if not, if I can return it. I mean, it hasn't even been a week... The only 2 good looking ones I can think of are Acer Ferrari and Sharp Actius, and both will need to have stuff added/replaced and won't be as good in the end, but I think even then, they'll make me happier. Another chocie is Toshiba F6 at Colorware - but at nearly $3000, yeah right; the $2000 for this piece has already made me worry whether I'll be able to pay rent and pay the credit card at the same time. That's the same price as for Qosmio, though it's a little cuter. Why's Toshiba so damn expensive? I wish I was a Mac person sometimes, their stuff is so neat...

I'm tired, I should go to bed... Sorry this is so long, I'm just disappointed, I'm afraid my money is gone, and even if I can get it back - I don't know what the best use of it will be. Dump them into the student loan and wait? heh...

I really think you should return it. You shouldn't keep what you don't like, especially something that costs $2000+. Prior to my purchase, I was considering the Asus W2V and Qosmio G25 for their aesthetics and superior graphics card.

I feel Asus manufactures the best-looking laptops on the market right now. In addition, they have a good reputation for reliability and are full of features, something that sets them apart from brands like Sony that only focuses on the aesthetics. Asus is a promising up-and-coming company, and deserve all the hype. I chose not to buy the W2V because I plan to go back to Japan this fall and Asus' service isn't nearly as good in Japan.

The Qosmio has all the features of the N6210 plus RAID and Geforce 6600. I've read that the Qosmio's black surface around the keyboard attracts alot of fingerprints and easily smudges . I also went to BestBuy and noticed right away that the hinges were really sweaky. After considering these two factors with Tosiba's relialibilty, the Qosmio was no longer attractive to me.

Although both the W2V and Qosmio offer better graphics cards, what set the N6210 apart was:
    1) Ten-Key Numeric Pad
    2) Fujitsu Reliability
    3) 2 Hard Drives (I don't need RAID, really a useless feature)
    4) supports 1000Mbps LAN (a must in Japan, Qosmio only support 100Mbps base)

In the end, it was an easy choice. I was looking for a DTR, a laptop to be used and kept at home 99% of the time, not a laptop to impress. I do think the decision would've been easier if the N6210 came with a X700, but after hours of doing my homework, the N6210 offered the best overall package of balanced features.

I'm going off to school in the fall, and have been debating among several fujitsus. I was wondering if you thought if the N6210 would be better than the S6000 or the S7000. One thing that concerns me with the N6210 is the weight, would it be managable, or cumbersome? Likewise, witht the S series, do you have any idea as to what the "glossy" screen is like-in terms of glare?

nice bed sheets there. aye, aye, aye. instead of painting you can get laptop "skins", maybe a pink one to camoflauge with hello kitty there

    http://www.skynmobile.com/

and if you don't like the black color of the n6210, maybe the smaller s6000 series with the dark silver look would have been better...it's one of my favorite looking notebooks out there.

we can only provide so much bandwidth for an upload to the forums, you'll have to PM Brian or I to get access to another area we allow mega sized uploads...the image you provided seems large enough to me though.

also considering the N6210...LOVE THAT LCD!!!

the ATI X600 is generally considered a mid-level GPU; anyone with experience playing Farcry or equivalent at 1440 resolution? frame rates OK?

does the 6210 have a wifi keyboard indicator light when connected?

anyone with experience buying computers at www.computeronline?...they seem to have best price on 6210

Hey, my N6210 finally got delivered yesterday. I've had a couple hours to play with it and I am very impressed. Everything that I expected and more. I'll post my first impressions this weekend along with some pics.

I want to ask one question to you N6010/N6210 owners. How do you keep the numeric lock on? It turns off everytime I restart the computer.

And anyone interested in this laptop, feel free to ask me any questions. I'll be glad to answer them.

    Thank you.

I guess you probably would have tried this, but on desktop computers there's sometimes an option in the BIOS to have NUMLOCK on or off when you boot.

Here's a question for you tttttada. You say that you will soon have 7k100x2. Is this an installation that you'll be doing yourself?

The reason I ask is because I called Fujitsu to ask if I got 1 hard drive initially if I could install another later and they said I couldn't. And by couldn't, I don't mean that it'd void the warrenty, but they said that I physically could not add in a second drive at a later date.

Of course, it's entirely possible that I got a CSR that didn't know what she was talking about...

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear your input on the subject.

    TriviallyTravis, thanks for your input.

I've already tried the BIOS. What's funny is that it boots up with the NUMERICLOCK on but when logging onto Windows, it shuts itself off again. I'm calling Fujitsu for help on this one.

And yes, I will be upgrading my HD myself. I just upgraded my RAM a couple of hours ago and while in the process, I figured I might as well disassemble the whole underside to see where everything was positioned. The first HD slot is in the default position, right underneath the left palm rest. The second one is under the biggest panel, and is only accessible by removing the panel over the RAM. It was empty and seems to be readily upgradable.
And before I bought this laptop, I asked Ivan@P1 and he also told me it would be plug and play. I think you're right, the rep didn't know what she was talking about.

    Hope this answers your question.

Okay, here's an update on the NumLock. I called Fujitsu and P1 and they're both telling me there's no way around it, for now. The guy at P1 I spoke to told me he'd research and email me later today. Well, this is their consensus: Microsoft enabled this "feature" because 95% of the laptops on the market have no numeric keypad. People (who don't know what a BIOS is) actually call in and complain that their keyboard is acting strangely. So, I guess I have to manually press the Numlk key everytime I turn on the laptop.

That's interesting that there wasn't an option for it in the BIOS...

I'm going to have to check my Dell when I get home now to see what it looks like.

tttttada...have you tried any games like farcry yet?...curious about framerates/response at 1440

also, does the N6210 have a wifi indicator light?

I had planned to install a 2nd drive later as well (I have a couple 7K60's waiting for my N6210 to arrive). I sent an email to Fujitsu asking about this.

Travis, maybe I confused you. Yes, there is a option for it in the BIOS. I have the NUMLOCK turned on. And it works too... until Windows starts, that is.

Waynet, I haven't tried any gaming on this lappy yet and I probably won't in the near future. Even if I will it'll probably be a strategy/RPG game. I'm really not into the action stuff. And yes, there is a Wifi switch/light. The switch is in between the keyboard and LCD, and light is below the touchpad, where all the other indicator lights are.

I just checked my email and guess what? A email from tim@p1. Subjects reads "numlock fix" I followed the procedure and it works flawlessly!!! I'm just so glad I bought my laptop from P1 right now. Their service and support are the best!!!!

For those who may have the same problem, I would like to share the procedure:

    -Go to the Start button
    -Click on "Run..."
-In the dialog box, type "regedit"
    -Push OK
-The Registry Editor program comes up
-Click on the plus box next to the following: HKEY_USERS, then .DEFAULT, then Control Panel
-Click on the folder for Keyboard
-On the right side, there should be a few entries, look for InitialKeyboardIndicators
    -Double-click on InitialKeyboardIndicators
-In the box that comes up, the Value Data will probably be 0 (zero), change it to 2
    -Close the Registry Editor
    -Restart the computer

I'll post further info of the N6210 throughout this weekend.
Hopefully some pics too. (If you have any requests ofspecific pics let me know)
    Thanks.

I've also read that the N6010 had a fan that would spin intermittently every 5 seconds or so. So far, noise is not bothersome at all. The fan seems to be running constantly at low RPM. It does kick into high gear every now and then when running heavy programs, but to me, noise is a non-issue.

However, I think someone have mentioned earlier, there is some heat generated in the left palm rest. I believe it comes from the Hard Drive right below it. It gets warm but never to the point where it's uncomfortable.

Travis, maybe I confused you. Yes, there is a option for it in the BIOS. I have the NUMLOCK turned on. And it works too... until Windows starts, that is.

    Ah, I see. That's jank.

Well, I'm really excited. After about 15 emails back and forth with Ivan at P1, I'm getting my laptop painted!!! WOO HOO!!! For $250 they'll take it apart, get it painted with BMW glossy white paint at a local auto body shop, put it back together and send it back! So for $275 (counting shipping from me to P1) I'll have the sexiest machine out of everyone on the forum! Muahahahaha! I'll post pics in the mods forum when I get it back (about 2-3 weeks).

Really, I'm just excited that I can have my cake and eat it too. :p yummy!

In response to somebody's question: Yes, the HD does heat up. I guess it comes with the 7200 RPM territory. But, judging by my light use thus far, it won't burn you. Also, the fan does get noticeable sometimes, but I've been using it almost exclusively on the bed (i.e. nowhere for heat to escape), and it's not much of a problem anyway. When I get it back, I'll be moving to a new apt, so I'll try to make a space for the laptop on a table. The table I have is white, however, so I'm afraid it might get lost!

Yep... I'm definitely tired of waiting for mine.

Even though it's only been a week since I ordered it.

    :p

that's borderline insane. An autobody shop? You could get a car painted at Maaco for about that. You'd better hope they don't sandblast it to get the black paint off, so much for the nice screen if that's the case. lol.

    (a) Dude, I'm not retarded. It's not getting painted with the screen still inside. Read what I wrote.

    (b) Get 6010? Hell, I might as well get a G4 iBook with your logic.

    (c) He? How many guys do you know whose names end with the letter a? Not to mention everything else. And (d) yes, those are nice sheets. A little bit faded from the sun, but it's ok, I bought an extra set for the time when this one wears down further.

I guess here, convention is a must, and if you want something slightly different, you're a freaking weirdo. I used to think notebookreview was cool.

Malia. Yes, that's my real name. And my last name is (gasp) Zee. Because there wasn't a good enough equivalent of my birth-given name in English, so I legally changed it to a name that I like, and I couldn't be more happy about it.

hey hey relax, we're not trying to attack you by any way. Like i said, I'm interested in how it turns out. But, let me ask you this. You mentioned earlier that you like the Qosmio and F6. Then, you also added that it costs too much. But then you're spending an extra $270 on strictly the aesthetics. Why did you buy the N6210 in the first place? Did you not research when you purchased this model? (there's plenty of pics on P1s website)

btw, I'm a guy and my name is Tada. Both my roommates names also end with an a (Naka, Masa) and they're both guys. If it isn't a English name, how should we know? It's good to hear that you like your name, but there's no need to overreact.

Ouch, I got a thumbs down. I was kidding on the screen thing...I know neither you, P1 nor the auto body shop are dumb and will not sandblast the body with screen on. What is dumb is that you see these ads with people using their laptop on the beach (woo hoo, freedom) where sand is liable to whip around in the wind and guess what happens to the screen?

Unconventional is good. People that flaunt their white Apple G4's in Starbucks may think they're trendy/unconventional, but they're a dime a dozen, but a white Fujitsu N6210 is, well, $270 a one.

I don't know any guys named Malia and I don't know any guys with pink sheets...the gender should have been obvious. But it's quite possible to hide behind a girls screen name if you want, good way to keep complete anonymity and create a bit of a gender bender, so you have to forgive anyone on this site that assumes someone into technology just has to be a male, it's a sexist stereotype. I'm proud to say that one of the best mods on this site is a girl (SouthernGirl) and there's several great reviews by girls too. They usually write much better actually.

Haha...just relax. While I think you're a little nuts for the paint job, definitely post pictures, I'm sure it will be hot.

I just ran Mobilemeter and it's showing a 55C for CPU and 52C for HardDrive both @idle/webbrowsing. Is this normal? I've read other threads and most laptops measure around 40C.

I would think that, for the HDD at least, it runs hotter because of the faster speed?

    TriviallyTravis,

Have you received your N6210 yet? Since you have the same HD as mine, I'd be really interested if your lappy is acting the same way.

    HDD: 43°C

Hey, what software did you uninstall from your machine? I'm looking at getting rid of the boatware but I don't want to mess up any drivers that may show up under add/remove.

Hmm, wonder why your HD temp is so much lower than mine.... oh well.
I only uninstalled Works and two other programs but i dont remember which ones. There aren't too many useless software on this machine.
