New to the board and hoping you all will be able to help me out.

I turned on my Lifebook (S series) the other day and at first thought it wasn't booting up, but then realized that it was in fact on; however, the screen was extremely dark as I could just barely make out the icons and was able to use programs and such. I spoke with someone at Fujitsu tech support who recommended sending it in and estimated the cost at 600-800 for the monitor or backlight replacement. I then asked a tech savvy friend who recommended looking online (eg ebay) for a backlight myself.

Just curious as to the recommendations of the board. From what I've read, the backlight replacement is very delicate and not something I would trust myself with. On the other hand, if something like this is going to cost 600-800, I might as well get a new computer. This is something I'd like to get taken care of asap, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Are you in USA or canada. If you are I would recommend contacting www.portableone.com for an estimate, cause 600-800 seems a bit over board. And yes fixing anything to do with the LCD screen could be very delicate to do especially if you have no manuals on where the screw locations are and such ...

Thanks for your help Qwester. I have contacted portable one and am waiting for a reply. I am in Washington DC; do you know of any reputable repair centers closer to the East Coast?

I still have not heard back from Portable One after several attempts at contact. Does anyone know of another reputable repair spot, perhaps something closer to the DC area? Thanks
