I have Amilo M1450. It worked a for good year until now, then the fan stopped working. It doesn't want to start to spin in any condinion. The whole system is working, ofcourse until CPU gets too hot and it shuts down.
I tryed to search the forum and found that can be motherboard... Any more ideas what a problem is?

    Thanks

First of all: have you installed any program or driver that could be the reason that the fan isn't working? For example if you have been playing around with Speedfan or NHC.

As second: I would say: update your drivers.

Flash your BIOS, update chipset drivers, video card and all the other drivers. To be very sure you could also format your notebook (clean install).

NOTE: I now notice that the M1450 has a Silent Mode function. Maybe it is wise to install those drivers or just too shut down this function because this function could disable your fan!

And if all these don't work you could always contact F&S and make use of your warranty or ask them about this problem.

    Good luck!

    1. No mentioned software was installed.
    2. I will try to update them.
    3. Called to F&S support, the guy straight away said it's hardware problem & it would cost me to collect & test the problem 100 pound, because it's out of warranty.

Now, sometimes it even doesn't want to boot :/

Thanks for advices, Notebook Solutions ;)

    No problem.

If the notebook does not even boot anymore I would definately try a format of Windows. Have you also tried that Silent Function?

I meant it doesn't power on anymore, with battery, without battery/with charger. Once the leds switched on (battery/CPU and so on), the HDD started to spin, but that's it...black screen and afterwhile the leds switches off.

I think the best thing will be just to give to support to fix it :)

Indeed, that is the best thing to do. This goes beyond just a fan problem.

    Good luck!

You won't believe. I had a spare Intel Pentium M 735 processor & thought why not to try to change it. After change the notebook started to boot, the fan started to spin, but fan sometimes struggles. The it wants to spin it produces a sound like mosquito & I have to help to spin it. It seems that something doesn't let him spin. It's phenomenon :D
Perhaps to release the screws a little bit from heat sink? :)

Perhaps the fan is reaching the end of its life. After some time, the bearings in the fan itself will become defective, because of the wear, and the fan will begin to make a grinding noise. You could try to loosen the screws, but if it doesn't work, then you may need a new fan. Normally the heatsink gets sold with the fan unit, so it may add to the overall cost.
