depends on the models. Sony's are not all cool running, some are quite toasty :p. As with any manufacturer it depends from one model design to another.

BTW most european models are siemens-fujitsu (amilo series). And are not related to the models in east asia and the americas (lifebook series). I generaly find the european models (amilo) inferior in quality to the lifebook series.

    The P1500 is an east asian model. (N, E, A, C, S, T, B, and P series are east asian)

Hmm don't know if this is relevant since I have a LifeBook, but I've no problem with heat. I have N6210 with a Pentium M processor. The HDD (@7200RPM) always feels warm, but it's not problemmatic. And it feels comfortably warm on my lap, though at 10 pounds, it's not where I keep it most of the time.

Re screens - Sony has nice screens, Fuji has nice screens. I haven't compared them side-by-side, but I think you'll be happy with either.

mine is warm on the bottom of laptop if that counts...im using lifebook n3410.
both sony and fuji screens are nice but don't know which is better. One thing I like about it is you can still read clearly from every viewing angle. Very nice contrast and brightness, you won't be disappoint on that part.

I have a S2110 Lifebook and it never gets hot at all. I will say that it gets warm but not at all uncomfortable to sit on your lap.

I have an Amilo M3438G, and it gets ridiculously hot. It doesnt matter if you are doing 3D rendering and Photoshop, or letting it sit idle. I am used to it now, it actually feels strange to me when I turn it on at first, and i am using it for a few minutes cold, or when I use somebody elses laptop. Most irritating is that it gets hottest around the mouse-pad and where you rest your wrists. Typing for any length of time leaves your hands and where they have been resting very wet and sweaty - not very nice!! A little hairline crack has developed on the bottom left corner of the casing, just below the keyboard, and I have a feeling this was caused due to the heat, as it happened very early on and I have always taken a lot of care handling the machine. If you have been using it on a table for a while, if you move it and feel the table where it has just been, It is exactly like you have had a hot plate on there for half an hour. I have checked the same laptop in a few shops, and all of them are the same, so they are obviously designed like this - or just very poorly and cheaply designed as it honestly seems to me. Terrible quality.

I have a Fujitsu S6231 and it does get very hot. The cooling system was rasonably quiet on this model but after it reached about a year old fan became rattly and noisey. This particular defect/syndrome has been reported by others on this model.

xsxs, I beleive i have the same laptop as you, the Amilo Pi1536. I think mine also runs quite hot, I say I think because this is my first laptop ever and i havent been on anyone´s laptop either so i dont know how hot they should run. But it does feel hot. I dont know if its because it has a core duo processor or because its fujitsu or what....
I have heard a couple of people owning fujitsus that had a crack at the botton of the laptop, which seems to be caused by them running hot.

My s7020d is a great machine EXCEPT it gets hot on the left palm rest. Very annoying to me. Some people might say its a normal level of heat, and after feeling other sonoma class 14" notebooks they might be right. But its too hot for me.
