Hello everyone, i have a :fujitsu: N6010 and for the past week i can only read around 3 out of every 5 dvd's i put in my computer. Does anyone have any idea of whats happening?

When i put the dvd's in, it starts playing it, then it gets all messy/choppy, and i can hear the player having difficulties.

It started happening since i installed dvd region + css free since my player got stuck on a region (after 5 changes). Why does a player get stuck anyway, this is so annoying.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    thanks ;)

It gets stuck after 5 changes because all players are limited to 5 changes by hardware.

So if you uninstall that software you have it works fine? (I am trying to figure if you have a hardware or software problem)

I guess you can try some other region bypass software. something like slysoft's anydvd. I used that in the past and it was pretty light and got the job done.

hi qwester, well if i uninstall the software it doesn't work at all because i'm stuck in the wrong region. But the problem started happening like a month ago, and i installed the dvd region free about a month ago. Its very weird, because the problem happens only from 2 out of 5 dvd's aprox.

give anydvd a try, just to try and eliminate a problem linked specifically to dvd region free. I think it comes with a 30 day free trial.

I would have recommended a firmware upgrade for your DVD drive, but I already know that the drive on the N6010 has no upgrade available. At least if you have the same one that I have. I have the CDRW-DVD combo Toshiba SD-R2512

Well mat$hita won't do you any good. They are a subdivision of panasonic but the never make their firmwares available for download, even if the have a newer one that they are currently shipping.

In the past I had to find someone with an identical mat$hita drive like the one I had (different laptop) to extract the firmware from it since through some weird way my firmware got corrupted! In short mat$hita ain't exactly great on the support part!

hi, i've tried anydvd, but that's even worse than with dvd region free, it doesn't even play the dvd. I tried to look for some driver updates but couldn't find any for the 830s, there are many for 831s or 820 but not 830s.
Do you guys know where i could find an update, maybe that will solve my problem.

ps: is it possible to actually reset my dvd player? so that i have another 5 zone changes?

    thanks

a reset means messing with the firmware (or using a cracked firmware, which is illegal). I wouldn't recommend using any none official firmware cause you might end up killing your drive.

i'm sorry that this doesn't help, but what is the logic behind changing the region of your DVD player 5 times when it clearly says right there that you are only allowed to do it 5 times????? Sorry but if i was Fujitsu or Mat****a I wouldn't help you at all. it isn't a problem with the hardware or software you just should really haven't kept changing the region,

i wish i could help you but there really isn't a solution to this is there, it is just a matter of don't do it. If Fujitsu feels really nice they may replace it but i highly doubt it, did you get it form portable one? i think that would be the only thing that could help you at this point.

HI circa, "Sorry but if i was Fujitsu or Mat****a I wouldn't help you at all" wow, what a nice guy you are !! why would i change it 5 times ? why do you think, to watch movies from different regions of course. (stupid question). I never asked for a new drive, i only asked if there was something i could do to fix my problem, and my problem was that a few dvd's don't work, and a few do. (dvd's from the same region that is).

Qwester: thanx for your reply, i won't mess with the firmware.

i'm sorry, man i was just really tired, i just got back from my art history class :), i'm usually a very nice guy, but maybe you should talk to fujitsu, either help chat or call them, and see if they have any suggestions, it is possible that they could have a way for you to revert back to the original region or something maybe?

if i were you i would email Ivan at portableone.com because he can usually find answers to everything, and they are a authorized Fujitsu dealer, if you email him he will email you back as soon as he gets it so that is what i recommend, sorry for being an asshole :p

    those drives are nasty!

I was so happy when I checked and noticed mine was not a mat$hita, I had enough trouble with them in the past to want to go there again!

    Thanx for the info

i don't see what is wrong with matsh ita? my drive works beautifully, i don't really understand the concept of allowing changin of the region though
