    Hello all,

I'd like to repost a problem I have on my Fujitsu-Siemens S6210 laptop. About two months ago, my main battery went from being fine on one day, to being bad in the next day. Being bad means:

    - Losing about 15% of charge overnight, while on the day before it lost about 1-2%.
    - Taking a long time to charge to 100%.
    - Having a very weird charging rate, as shown in the images below (graphs taken from Notebook Hardware Control). Please pay special attention to the second picture!

The last reason is the reason why I think this is not just a "battery went bust" problem. Does anyone here know what kind of problem this is, and how I should solve it (if it can be solved)?

    Some data about the laptop:

    Model: Fujitsu-Siemens S6210
    Age: around 5 years old
    Processor: Pentium M 1.6 GHz
Batteries: Main battery + modular bay battery (the modular battery is working fine)

Thanks in advance for the help!

    That can't be 5 years old. I bought an S6120 in 2004.

Anyway, 3 to 4 years use from a battery is all you can expect. Most have got a substantially reduced capacity after two or three years. The strange thing is the way your battery has suddenly died. Most just hold progressively less charge and can do things like drop from 30% charge to 3% charge in a couple of minutes.

My only suggestion would be to do a couple of deep discharge cycles. Disable the critical battery action in the power plans so the computer continues to run until the battery is empty. Then recharge, discharge and recharge. This might reset the calibration (also check the BIOS for any battery calibration option). If it's no better then its time to look for a replacement battery.
