Looking for feedback from n6410 owners because I am thinking about either buying this machine or the HP dv8000t. Know a lot about that machine but not much about the n6410. Did read the great review about it on this site but would love to hear your impressions if you own this laptop. Both positive and negative feedback appreciated and thanks.

Have you read Laptop Mag's review of the N6410?

I'm not personally familiar with this laptop, but they give it a pretty good review.

They do say, however, that due to it's short battery life, weight and short wireless range, it's really meant to be teathered to your desktop.

However, it has a backlite iPod style media control at the top, built in tv tuner, and a nice, large 17 in. monitor.

    Sounds like a nice machine!

I own a N6410 and I truly love it. I have had no issues what so ever.

As for the wireless, I haven't had and issue with that either. Actually I get pretty decent distance.

The screen is to die for. This is without a doubt, IMHO, the best screen on any notebook bar none. Its crisp, clear and I do not seem to get the reflections that other glossy screens seem to have.

The battery on the other hand is another story. I get approximately 1:30 of run time which is really a disappointment. But even this short coming would still not change my mind.

Thanks very much. Yes, the short battery life and the heaviness of the unit are my greatest concerns in buying this otherwise fantastic laptop. Could I ask, Irishrover, what brightness adjustments you make while running on battery and thank you again.

yeah, i did the review that qwester posted, this is really a good machine, i don't understand their complaint on the wireless range, wireless range is just as good as any other laptop using the newest Intel Wi-Fi card.

I have to give the screen even more praise, I can't wait to see when Fujitsu comes out with another model after the N6000 to see if they can keep improving on the screen, it just keeps getting better and better and it is easily one of the best.

when i ran the review unit on battery, depending on the room light i would almost always run it on less than half brightness, which was more than enough for most situations.

    hope the review is helpful

As I mentioned in my post beginning the thread I read your review and it was very well done. I was just looking for users who had bought the machine as to their feedback. Another thing also is, I have been told by Fujitsu that their extended warranty is not transferable if I understand it right. If you buy one of their units and sell within the first year warranty, then it would continued to be covered the first year for the new owner. But, the extended warranty if you bought any would no longer be in effect. I believe the new owner could buy extended warranty but I am not sure of this. Will have to get further clarification.

Again, this machine does have one of the components I am most concerned about, a great screen that I can use without straining my poor vision. And, it also has a great reliable keyboard which I also value. Thanks again and any more feedback would be helpful.

As circa86 noted, the screen dims to about half when running on battery, but not so dim that you have to strain to look at it. Actually when you unplug the power adapter, the screen automatically adjusts for you. You can however adjust it brighter if needed, but be forewarned that battery life will suffer.

I have N6210, which is N6410's predecessor (with N6220 released a month or 2 after N6210) - and I love it. I'm sure if it was N6410, I'd love it even more.

All DTRs have a short battery life since that gigantic screen needs a lot of power to keep running, as does a faster HDD (if you get one). When comparing Fujitsu's battery life to HP's, however, keep in mind that Fujitsu's brightest setting is way, way, way brighter than HP's, so if you're comparing life with half the brightness on one to life with half the brightness on another, you're comparing apples and oranges. Or oranges and tangerines, to be precise.

Also, if the screen is very important to you, I say, forget HP. I too considered buying HP dv#### versus Fujitsu, and it certainly didn't hurt that HP was cheaper - but when I saw them in store side by side, it was Fujitsu hands down. I tried to justify to myself buying a HP refurb that they had in stock, which with TV tuner and MCE would still have cost me less than the Fujitsu without, and I just couldn't do it. That screen just kept looking at me... with no glare... and I could see it from the side, which comes in handy if you're trying to watch a movie with a friend... and I said, screw HP, Fujitsu here I come! :D

P.S. I see you're in NYC. Go to J&R, call them first though to make sure they have it on display. If not, try Datavision, just make sure you're prepared to ward off their super-lame sales reps.

Malia, thanks for your good input. Do you know if you saw the HP so-called UltraBrightview screen or simply what they call BrightView which is not nearly as bright?

Still believe Fujitsu would have the best screen for me to see but just have to work myself up to giving up battery life and portability and the most current graphics card. But, screen, build quality and keyboard seem to go to Fujitsu without any problem. Thanks again to all.

I don't remember if it was BrightView or UltraBrightView. However, brightness wasn't the only problem - the side viewing angles were pretty bad on the HP. Well, they were actually pretty average, but average is pretty bad. I think there was also more glare (you know, when you see everything around you reflected in the screen), but it was a whole year ago so I can't be certain. Just go and check them both out for yourself, it'll be much easier making a decision then :)

I have\had a N6220 and have to agree that the screen is amazing, such a pleasure to view... I've bought a P7120 and it's taking a while to get used to the screen... I know the N6xxx are desktop replacements, but **** they are heavy.

Hey, I found a good price for the Fujitsu N6410 here:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834110199

you have to click a button and the cheap price of 1,474 will be displayed (I believe there are no taxes there so it's a good price). I am also thinking of buying this machine so I am doing very extensive research. It seems to be very reliable which would be good for me because I will be taking it to Brazil and living there (a bit difficult to obtain International tech support, but it is available). Another thing, I am thinking that it's price might go down further soon with the Core 2 Duo Laptops supposedly coming out at the end of the month. Let me know if you found anything out.
