I'd say a good choice. :) Even though the Xa model looks a lot nicer...

I would have gone for the AMD. It is 100 euro's cheaper and the Turion X2 2.0 GHz is as good as a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo.

You could have used that 100 euro for upgrade to 2 GB.

Not a wise choise I think.

    Charlie :)

As far as I knew though, its the Turion x2 Tl-60 that runs at 2ghz, not the Tl-56. Can anyone clarify this, cause I was relatively certain of it having seen the TL-60/2ghz figure all over the web several times?

It's Intel you should be sceptical of if you value your privacy and independance from international corporations. There's more spy-technology (curtained memory, chip identifier etc) on their processors than AMD's, more support for Trusted Computing ( they trust your computer to do what they want,) and the Free Software Foundation recommends AMD chips over Intel. Apart from maintaining your (computer's) integrity, in terms of processing, both companies are giant chip makers with proven track records of producing quality CPUs, so the only other reason to discrimminate is price/power.

Incidentally, both laptops are seriously upgradeable - the xa will take whatever the fastest Turionx2 on socket s1 eventually is, probably (2x2.6)ghz at least, and (like the xi) a go 7950 for graphics. I'm going to get an xa1526, wait a year for the warranty to run out, then upgrade the nuts off it. Does Fujitsu have a good reputation for build quality and reliability?

The Xa 1526 has great build quality. It has an aluminium brush at the top and where the palm area is.
Fujitsu Siemens is known for it's good reputation. Good brand if you ask me.

And like you said: the TL 56 is a 1.8 GHz Turion X2 and not 2.0 GHz. But about upgrading videocards in notebooks: that is not possible because it is very hard to get MXM videocards.

    Charlie :)

You might already know about this place

    www.mxm-upgrade.com

but the guy who runs it has been selling mobility x1800s and other cards. The highest on offer at the moment is a 7900gs, and there's a waiting list, but from other research i've done into buying broken laptops with intact graphics cards it looks do-able. Hopefully Mxm willbecome more mainstream, not sure but it seems to be getting more common.

As Charlie has mentioned, upgrading the graphics card is very difficult. MXM will help alot, but even then, the choice is quite limited. If you are thinking of upgrading, then a Mobility X1800 or Mobility X1900 should be able to fit, but a Go 7900 GS may not have the correct placement of components, so it may not support the cooling on the Xi 1526.

Requires a small modification of the heatsink. 5 minut job if you have a Dremel or comparable tool ;)

I can see where you're coming from, in that I'd rather not have to do a modification - mainly to get a three year warranty. If a laptop with the components I want (17",turion x2 tl-60 or above, desktop gtx 7800 beating graphics card) comes out before I have to buy then I'll go for that instead, but if not the xa 1526 mxm should be fine :)
