    Hi to all,

I just bought FS Amilo A1667G, 1.8G Turion MT32, 1G RAM, 100GB HDD and I have problem with annoying fan  .

Even in "silent mode" which locks CPU to 350Mhz the fan starts every 5 minutes for 2 minutes  . This is fine but I think it is too loud - to be exact it sounds like the cheapest fan on chipset in normal PC.

Notebook also gets quite high temperature in 15 minutes of operating so I can pretty well get warm my hands when back from cold winter day ;-) ... I guess it is too hot and too noisy (I had chance to compare with Dell / HP - both Intel PentiumM and they stayed cooler (at least on top) and fan was MUCH more quiet)

Anybody has the same problem ??? Is it normal ??? Is is possible to buy good silent fan and exchange it ?????????
Are my expectations ok if I expect Toshiba with Centrino to be better in this area (I mean 1.86Ghz+ATI X700) ??

THANKS for tips, I have only 7 days to return it.

PS otherwise it is great notebook :fujitsu: but I work mainly during nights and the fan is really annoying.

Yes - but it is really pity and I would like to solve it. I just dont want to turn away of this nice (from my point of view) notebook just because of this detail.

So I ask if it is possible (and/or common) to buy and exchange these little fans in notebooks (??) ..

... and if this is common problem with Fujitsu ? Maybe I can't help it just by turning away and going Toshiba etc ... on the other hand I bought notebook with "Silent mode" feature which is just marketing story .. or it is just mine piece.

I have no experince with notebook and don't want to act unadvisedly. Maybe I cannot ask more of this kind of CPU/power=>hot.

*** Any advices very welcomed ***

Changing a laptop fan is rather difficult compared to other things like changing the harddrive or RAM. And the warranty will certainly not allow this, so you need to have it done by an authorized technician of the laptop manufacturer. And they will probably only do this if they "see" a malfunction with the fan.

And last but not least: yes, you can ask more from that kind of CPU/power.

I thought so :( ... ok, do you think I can better go with Toshiba M60/M70 ? I like CrystalView or TruBrite technology so I am choosing between FS and Toshiba.
I put out of my list Asus, Acer and Sony so just these two are question now. Maybe coming IBM Z60 will be worth considering.

my two main aspects are good display (like Xblack,CrystalView etc) and silent capability. I do not care about power, graphic card but care abou 1 Gig of memory.

    Any recomendation ?

    thanks

I can't give you any recommendations for other laptops because I haven't taken a look into current laptop models after I bought my last one.

If you do not care about graphics power, then an integrated shared memory graphics solution would be an option because it consumes less power (fewer Watts) and produces less heat than a dedicated graphics card. Since you want 1 GB of RAM anyway, then sharing memory won?t be a problem.

just to let everybody know ... I wanted to give a try to A1667G and I was using it few days before returning. The fan is now even worse, I can hear sometimes some periodic sound like you can hear from old fan. Whats also not good - it happens that fan just start and never goes off. It is strong enough to get notebook really cool but it doen't turn off after that unless you restart the machine. UGH. Not for my night workin'. I am going to return it tomorrow.
If anybody is interested in this model please do not hesitate to ask questions, I used it few days so I will answer if I know. I tried to get some info before I bought it and it was quite hard so I understand ....
