    I can get it for $1700CA which isn't too bad but is their a lighter alternative on the market?

    The Sony A-series but that's been discontinued? Powerbooks are also lighter but it's an Apple and it's way more expensive. The ASUS W2 is also more expensive and lighter but it's basically the opposite of Powerbooks: it's a Windows based machine in black with similar styling to the Powerbook.

    Perhaps the HP dv4000, but it will not be as well but and the screen won't be as good.
