Has anyone upgraded their HDD to a 7200 rpm one? Which notebook do you have? Would you recommend this upgrade?

I've been on 7200RPM drives since they came out. Three ThinkPads and a Compaq.

I see many ThinkPad/MacBook Pro/HP users upgrading to 7200 rpm drives but not Fujitsu owners. Just wondering if Fujitsu notebooks are somehow non-upgradable. Hard to imagine why this would be but I just haven't read/heard many cases.

Nope, they are as upgradable as any notebook. Why do you need a faster HDD? What's the speed of your current HDD? Why isn't it enough? Have you optimized it for performance? What's the temperature of your current HDD? ...

My laptop is shortly described in my sig and the avatar is a picture of it. It has two 100GB 5400rpm HDDs. They are fast enough for my personal use (gaming, video, music etc.).

Thinking of upgrading from 80GB 5400rpm to the Hitachi 7k200 (200GB 7200rpm). Extra storage space is one thing. ThinkPad users see Vista bootup time decreased significantly with the 7200 rpm drive. It's also very quiet. This is a very popular mod for ThinkPads - in fact, you can also configure it with a 7200 rpm drive when you order. So, howcome I have not heard of Fujitsu users doing the same? It's also not too expensive. ($200)

Who knows. Why? Should you hear things like that often for some reason?

I, personally don't need extra space yet. Have had this laptop about 1,5 year and I still have half of the space (~100GB) free. I don't care about boot times so much either, but in this, XP boots in ~40 seconds, which is fast enough for me. I haven't yet seen any benefits in switching to Vista so I still use XP. Actually I wouldn't use XP either if it wasn't for games. I will propably get close to running out of disk space in the future but then I believe is time to buy a new computer. And then there's propably 1TB 10000 rpm or cheap flash drives available anyway. :)

I guess so. But I thought Fujitsu was popular among enthusiasts and therefore I expected otherwise. I'm looking for a ThinkPad T-series alternative. S6510 looks good so far.
