I've had my 6231 for a week now. It's a nice machine with one exception the fan or hard drive (spinning) makes consistent noise. The noise is coming from below the left side of the keyboard.

Has anyone else encountered a similar noise?

Sounds like the HDD. Some noise is to be expected but it shouldn't be constant. Which drive do you have?

It's the 60gig HD and yes it is constantly making noise.

How much RAM do you have? Constant HD access is indicative of OS paging due to lack of RAM. If I hold the left edge of my 6231 to my ear, I hear the fan, but not when it's on my lap with low ambient noise (tv on in other room).

    Hi,

I just got my 7020D and am also having fan noise problems. The fan seems to be on all the time, creating a reasonably loud whine. This air coming out of the vent is hot. Is this normal?

Well I called tech support and they told me that the fan noise may be because the battery is charging for the first time. If it doesn't resolve itself, then the computer is behaving abnormally and should be exchanged or fixed.

That was good to hear, since I got a slower chip and harddrive (1.7MGH, and 5400 RPM) specifically so that this computer would be quiet and cool.
